Nerve is the modern cinema sensation. Even though it’s focused on the young audiences and in a way it can’t be compared to the genius classics of cinematography, it’s a must watch of its own kind.
The movie is based around a new and controversial online game named Nerve. The game is full of dares provided by Watchers, and fulfilled by Players. Watchers pay to watch; Players get paid to do the dares. The game seems fun and harmless while the dares include kissing strangers and taking a ride to the city. However, soon enough Players are asked to drive motorcycles blindfolded with the people they just kissed.
A setting like this makes Nerve an enjoyable thriller with unique and fun camera angles and alternative ways of filming. Apart from this, the whole game of Nerve serves as one of a kind presentation of the online community and the roles people are forced to take in the society.
Watchers are faceless, anonymous crowd of people who fall under the diffusion of responsibility and take no notice of the chaos they create through the group think. None of the Watchers realizes at any point that they are the ones gambling with other people's lives. On the other hand, Players are the individuals in the society who decide to take risks rather than diffuse in the gray mass. They try to take control of their lives and are often pushed by the society to the extremes they wouldn't do on their own.
The movie of course posts a question: Are you a Watcher or a Player? The question itself can be found all over the world literature (Are you Gatsby or Nick? Are you Dorian or Lord Henry) but the audiences seem to miss the main question of the movie because they undermined the movie itself.
Nerve was finally fulfilled with the ridiculously attractive cast. If nothing else, it's worth watching for the scene in which Dave Franco and Emma Roberts are running through the mall in their underwear.
Of course, don't take my word for granted and go see the movie in your local cinemas, while it's still playing. That way, you'll be able to judge it yourself.
