6 "Negative" Things I Would Love To Have In My Life

Life isn't always filled with happiness and rainbows; everyone will face negative situations during their days. But sometimes, I think we are too quick to define something as "negative." I challenge you to redefine the negativity in your life with positivity. Here are six things that people usually think of in a negative light, but I would love to have my life filled with:

1. Messiness.

I think we all generally associate "messy" with a negative connotation. Most likely, as a child, you got punished for keeping your room messy. As an adult, you're considered difficult to live with if you're messy. But face it: life is messy anyway, no matter how hard you try to prevent it. Your life is messy. You're stumbling through it and you're guessing and you're trying new things and you're experiencing.

2. A lack of focus.

Because in your singular life, there is so much to focus on: family, friends, school, work, the future, hobbies, downtime, and more. There's a lot of pressure to focus all of your time and energy on work, your future career, etc. But trust me, you don't want to do that. It might be better to be considered "unfocused." Your future is important, but so are your present and the people in it.

3. Confusion.

No, you don't always know what would be best to do in this complicated situation called life. But yeah, that's okay. No one ever has it completely figured out, and they're lying if they say they're never confused. Because life's trademark is its uncertainty, and a life without uncertainty and confusion wouldn't be as pleasant as it sounds; it would be boring.

4. Chaos.

When someone describes a situation as "chaotic," you probably get an uncomfortable feeling. But consider this: is the "chaotic situation" a group of people in frantic panic, or is it a room full of your loved ones bubbling over with excitement? Sometimes, there is so much going on at once that even if you try to take it all in, you can't grasp every detail. But wanting to hold onto every detail is a sign that you're living a life full of love, so maybe some chaos is a good thing.

5. Angst.

Nothing about fear and anxiety feel cozy, but the presence of fear and anxiety are signs that your life is, well, alive. Life would be stagnant without situations that cause you fear. There would be nothing new to overcome, experience, or make you feel accomplished. Also, everyone needs some moodiness in their life sometimes, let's be honest. Every once in a while, embrace the emotions that make you feel like others will find you unpleasant; live a little. You deserve to not always need to be happy and pleasant and fine.

6. Challenges.

It hurts to admit it almost as much as it hurts while it's going on, but if your life is tough and challenging, you're probably growing. Try to remember that whenever you're struggling: even if it doesn't feel like it, you are growing as a person.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
