The Stigma Of Being A Perfectionist Is Overrated
Times Mart Me

There is such a negative essence when it comes to calling yourself a perfectionist, but what is so wrong about being one? Even when I was younger, I subconsciously felt the need to do everything perfectly. I wasn't strictly focused on being perfect, instead I was concerned with doing something to my standards, and nothing less. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Perfectionism shouldn't be viewed negatively anymore. Instead, we should admire the strong qualities and valuable characteristics they possess:

1. Perfectionists never settle for anything short of...perfect.

Perfectionists go above and beyond until something is done to it's entirety. You can always count on them for the best of the best work. They take the time to double and triple check to ensure it is done right. Even though, it might take a little more time than the average, it will be well worth the wait in the end.

2. Perfectionists have tremendous motivation, determination, and persistence.

They go the extra mile and put in the extra hours behind closed doors. Perfectionists have the drive and tenacity that a majority of people lack. In addition, the qualities of a perfectionist are those that employers seek for in potential job candidates. Other people admire their drive and envy their work ethic, but will never fully get what perfectionism is unless you are one.

3. Perfectionists are extremely hard workers.

Because of the high expectations they have for themselves, they are willing to put in the nitty gritty work to make sure those expectations are met. They are their biggest critic and won't stop until something is done correctly. They won't settle for something average, so they are willing to work a little harder than the rest.

Is it that bad being a perfectionist? Maybe at some points it can be a little excessive, but valuing perfection isn't that terrible. Nowadays, people are so caught up with just finishing something carelessly and forgetting about doing it the right way. Laziness is growing and we expect things to come our way. Perfectionism is accepting nothing less than perfect, why is that so frowned upon? We need more people who show signs of perfectionism for the reasons that have become so evident in life today.
