“Be filled with the Holy Spirit in every way possible.” That is what we are commanded to do. You must allow your thoughts, reactions, emotions, activities, responsibilities, and desires to be fully focused on the Word and Will of God. If they aren't, then what are we? If in such a moment where we do not exemplify God's character, and a friend or stranger decides to reject Him. What are we contributing to His kingdom when we get sidetracked by our own little errands?
And some may complain- how can we constantly focus on only God when our schedules and responsibilities are dictated by others? How can I evangelize when I'm behind on paperwork? Or have to fill orders by myself all day?
Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.”
Do you have a good attitude about it? What do you take away from your seemingly endless labor at the end of each day? God calls you to be a light to this world. It DOES NOT MATTER what your situation or excuse is. If you feel like you can't possibly witness for God through your job, your job needs to go, not God; He is not the problem. We shouldn't be hopelessly trying to clear out some meager space in our days or work lives for Him to occupy. Our day must be planned around Him. Our thoughts must start and end with Him.
I find myself 10, 15 minutes into the day and suddenly I'm upset. Why? Because I woke up with the Barbie theme song stuck in my head, or I've spent all this time thinking about a nice guy I met last week. I reprimand myself for not even thinking about God until it's time to get ready for church. I understand it's hard, too. Especially in a world today, that constantly bombards us with advertisements, commercials, and pointless information - distractions, it's not "good Christian thinking" to find yourself dreading Bible study or having to force yourself to focus on God.
But that shouldn't discourage you! It only shows us that to follow Him, you've got to put in the effort. You can't let Him be the centerpiece of your life half-heartedly- you have to consciously spend every waking moment immersing yourself in His presence and His ideals.
“And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 13:52) We cannot even begin to properly follow God without His help. He alone is pure and righteous, so the only way we can even come close is through Him. You need God to help you find God.It may be hard to wrap your mind around it, but it’s true. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”
You need God to understand God. How would you feel if Jesus came back right now? During whatever it is you’re doing. Wherever it is you’re at. Would you feel ashamed? Guilty?
Slow down. Don’t get so caught up in material things of this world that you forget the One more important than anything or anyone else. Yeah, you need food; let God provide it. Yes, you want your children to have a nice home; trust God to get you there. He created trees, spoke elements into existence, and breathed ideas into people’s minds after breathing life into our lungs. I’m pretty sure He can handle a few bills and Sunday dinner.
God is waiting with open arms. What’s your excuse?
