Reasons to lose weight:
- Medical reasons/your doctor is advising it
- You want to
- That’s it.
I hate when other people think it is okay to tell someone how they should look. It has been a thing for a while that you have to be skinny to be beautiful. Now people are saying you have to be curvy but really they mean is the “right” kind of curvy but this is so backward.
People’s bodies should look like however that person wants them to. There shouldn’t be any skinny shaming either. I have had friends that are naturally size twos and they could eat several pounds of mac and cheese a day and still be.
While I am for everyone being healthy and all that, we kind of need to look at the word healthy. The way I just said it makes it sound like being thin is the way to be healthy. It isn’t, at least, not really. Weighing a good weight for your body type might be a little closer. Overall though, being mentally healthy is what is important.
It is really easy to nitpick things that are wrong with you but don’t. Literally (not figuratively) nothing good can come from it! It will always be a struggle to love ourselves and our bodies the way they are. I know that. Yet we have to keep making the effort to do it.
Then, surround yourself with the people who love you no matter what shape or size you are. While it is good for people to encourage you to be the best you that doesn’t really mean encouraging you to lose weight.
It might mean encouraging you to work out occasionally or try some new healthy recipe but definitely not consistently talking about it.
The best way to be healthy is to be honest with yourself. If you need help, reach out. Whether it is from family, friends, or professionals don’t ever be too prideful to ask for help. Be honest with yourself about what you want and how you are going to get there.
Take time to think about why you want the things you do and make sure you want them for the right reasons. Lastly, take care of yourself. As much as your friends and family might love you and want to help, you are the only person that can truly make yourself happy.
