College is hard to shop for. Period. You are going somewhere that you have most likely never been before. You don't know what the dorms look like, you don't know what the community kitchen holds, and you don't know if you will truly need all the crap you bring with you to college. I have learned that there are superficial needs in college. Depending on what type of person you are, all the needs may vary. I have created a list from my freshman year for the needs you need to bring to college.

1. Mini Fridge

Yes you have a dinning hall, yes you can order food, but what about the time when you are hungry and you want food at 1 a.m. Just turn to the mini fridge my friends! It will always be filled with your favorites, as long as you stock it back up every week.

2. Keurig

You probably have a coffee shop on campus, but waiting in line and paying a couple dollars every day will end up being time consuming and costly. Instead, skip the line and make a cup in your dorm; it's cheaper and you can even take it to-go!

3. Exfoliators and Moisturizers

I know, this is an odd need. During the winter months with dryer weather and the heaters blasting in the dorms, your skin takes a toll. Chapped hands, dry feet, and peeling lips are all signs you need to exfoliate and moisturize. Plus you will feel amazing after!

4. Mattress Pad

Sleep is so important in college, but sleeping on the right type of support is crucial to a good night of rest. Most of the colllege mattresses are cheap and made of springs and foam. You need something that will give you more cushion and comfort. You will not regret this purchase, believe me!

5. Soundproof headphones

These are key to survival in the dorms. Is your neighbor blasting music while your trying to do homework? Just put on your soundproof headphones and problem solved. Is your roommate talking on the phone while your watching Netflix? Just put on those headphones and you're good to go!

6. Comfy clothes

Just because you are technically an adult doesn't mean you have to start dressing like one immeadiatly. Don't only pack dresses and nice professional outfits. The truth is in college we are between our adolecent phase and adulthood phase, so pack comfy clothes, you will wear them more than you think.

7. Tennis shoes

You will be walking all the time, especially if you don't have a car. Walking to and from class, and to and from activities can wear your feet out, but having a good pair of tennis shoes can keep you going all day. Plus they don't give you blisters!

8. Good backpack

If you walk all over campus, it is not only necessary to have good shoes, but to have a good supporting backpack. Wearing a backpack stresses out your shoulders and back, so make sure it has plenty of support and pockets for all the little things you need while being on campus.

9. Water bottle

During the commute around the campus, being dehydrated is the last thing you should be worried about, so keep a water bottle on you and make sure to drink from it during and between classes. In college, we drink so much coffee and suger filled drinks that we can become dehydrated faster than we think. So drink up!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
