We all grew up on the show “Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.” Ned provided us with tips for surviving middle school, but what would his survival guide for college look like? Let's take a look.
1. Friends
College is at times a stressful and hectic experience, so it is good to have close friends that you can trust and count on. Unfortunately, this can be difficult since college is full of many new people that you do not know and in middle school unless you went to an extremely big school you probably knew almost everyone. Of course, Ned would know about the importance of loyal friends. Cookie and Moze were two pretty awesome and hilarious sidekicks.
2. Cafeteria Food
Gross cafeteria food does not stop after middle school. Most colleges have food that is unappetizing or even completely inedible. Even if it is kind of okay, you probably will get sick of it after a while so it is good to buy some groceries to have on hand so that you have options.
3. Parties
College parties are a lot of fun. Just make sure that if there is a theme, whether it is Halloween or toga night that you dress for the occasion, so you can kill it on the dance floor!
4. Teachers
It is important that you get along well with your professor in college because they hold your fate in their hands. Always go to class but if you are sick or cannot make it one day, at least email them before hand and let them know. Also don’t be shy about attending their office hours.
5. Dating
When it comes to relationships in college things can get interesting. You definitely want to avoid jumping into anything too early like say the first week of the first semester your Freshman year. Depending on the school you go to things can be different but generally, students in college are usually single and not looking for anything serious. If you happen to find that special someone though, by all means go for it. Just take it easy with the PDA, because no one wants to be that couple
6. Stress
College can be a stressful time in your life. Everyone gets stressed but what makes a big difference is how you deal with the stress and let it affect you. I find it always helps to stay organized and make to-do lists and then check off a task from your list will be satisfying. If things get too overwhelming, it is best to just stop what you are doing, step back, and take a deep breath. After you have relaxed and given yourself a break, finish what you are studying or the paper that you are typing.
7. Writing Papers
I find the best time to write papers are well inspiration strikes, whenever that might be for you. If you get writer’s block, try free writing. It is where you simply just write everything down that comes to your mind and do not stop. Do not even stop to edit either, just right and save all of the editing for when you are done. This technique helps because it gets rid of all of the bad writing in your system to make room for good writing.
