NEDA Week Interview - Liv

The week of February 26 - March 4 is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and to bring to light the topic of Eating Disorders, I decided to interview a few of my friends and post them here. This will be a series of posts featuring the stories of some of my favorite people. This first interview is with my good friend Liv.

1. What is your name? My name is Liv.

2. How old are you? I am 32.

3. What type of Eating Disorder did you struggle with? I struggled with Bulimia.

4. When did your Eating Disorder begin? I was seven.

5. Have you ever gone into recovery? Yes, I have.

6. What made you decide to seek recovery? I couldn't handle life anymore, I couldn't function, I couldn't hold down a job.

7. What have you learned about life through your experience with this Eating Disorder? That I'm stronger than I thought I was, and no matter what, I can get through.

8. What has gotten you through hard times? Art (so much), games with friends and family, my support system, God, and knitting.

9. What is something you wish people knew about Eating Disorders? There is no "typical" eating disorder or the way a person with an eating disorder looks. Anyone can have an eating disorder, no matter their gender, size, religion, or anything else about them.

10. Do you have any advice for anyone who may be struggling with an Eating Disorder? You CAN recover, even when you think you can't. You're stronger than you realize.

If you or someone you know is struggling from an Eating Disorder, there is hope. You can find help from Mercy Multiplied or other treatment centers.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
