If you’ve been at NKU for at least a year, you know how much of a wind tunnel it can be. Winters can be pretty rough as snow and low temperatures come about. If you’re wondering what the secrets are to staying warm in winter, stay tuned. You are about to read the secrets of staying warm while on campus.

1. Leggings or Flannel Jeans.

No, not just leggings—layer. Wear leggings under your jeans or invest in some flannel jeans if you’d prefer one layer of clothing.

2. Buildings as Pathways.

Between classes, walk through the different buildings if one class is on the opposite side of campus. While this could add some time between classes, staying warm could be worth getting to class right in the nick of time.

3. Windbreaker.

This one is very important. Coats are nice, but if you really want to be efficient in your dress code then you need a windbreaker. If you invest in a windbreaker, you won’t have to deal with a cold breeze coming through the fibers of your seemingly warm jacket. It can also be used during other seasons, not just winter.

4. Boots.

Boots of any kind will work. Snow boots, UGGs, rain boots… any will do. If there is snow, a soft boot such as UGGs won’t be the greatest option, but if it is just cold outside they are great. If you want a cheaper option, rain boots with some warm socks will help you stay warm while keeping snow out.

5. Chapstick.

Don’t deal with the abrasiveness of chapped lips this winter. Keep lip balm in your backpack or pockets to save your lips from windburn.

6. Fuzzy or Wool Socks.

No one likes cold feet. Fuzzy socks will keep you warm as well as comfortable during class. If you are nervous about rocking the fuzzy socks, go ahead and get some wool socks. They will make sure to keep your toes toasty.

7. Hand Warmers.

If you get especially cold in winter, buy some hand warmers. Keep them in your pockets while in class and use them outside.

8. Earmuffs.

Having a hat or earmuffs won’t only help you keep in heat, but they can help you to express yourself. There are many cute hats or gamer/nerdy hats. I’m sure you could find one to express any interest of yours. They can also keep your hair intact with the impending wind.

9. Texting Gloves.

Addicted to your phone? Texting gloves will help you stay warm while being able to check your Snapchat or swipe right to dreamy prospects on Tinder.

10. Under Armour.

Under Armour will keep you warm without having to add to many layers to your outfit. They offer sweatpants, leggings, undershirts, and sweatshirts, among other articles of clothing.

11. A Scarf.

Don't let your neck get cold either! Stay warm with a scarf supporting our colors, while staying fashionable!

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
