10 Signs That You Are An Engineering Major At NCSU

In This Article:

NC State is a great engineering school. One of the bests. Here are some things that are relatable for almost all engineering majors.

It’s a love hate relationship

No one said that engineering would be easy. If they did, they definitely lied to you. Here at NC State you struggle in the difficult classes but seeing all of the amazing research, organizations, etc. that comes out of the NC State College of Engineering brings you happiness. You chose engineering here for a reason so obviously you love it, even if sometimes you want to drop out.

You stress… a lot

Engineering is really hard. When you are in 15+ credits of straight engineering class (or in some cases 12-15), you have a lot of difficult work to do. Nothing is worse than a week when you have multiple tests, homework assignments, and projects. During the year you can't ever seem to catch a break, except during dead week, but that just means you should start studying for finals.

You like the quiet of Centennial Campus

Stereotypically, engineering students are considered quiet nerds. Yeah we might be a little nerdy, but the quietness and smaller at-home feel of Centennial campus is nice when you are drowning in homework and need to avoid distraction. It never seems to get too loud in the buildings (unless EB3 is your home and you hear the wind tunnel).

You always use the 3 bus

There are other routes that go between both campuses, but the 3 bus is literally called "Engineering" for a reason and it is arguably the quickest link between Main Campus and Centennial Campus.

No Friday classes

Majority of the engineering professors do not like Friday classes because they like that day for research, conferences, etc. The university also typically will not schedule engineering classes on Fridays so majority of your semesters here you get three day weekends every weekend.

You live in Hunt Library

If you are and engineering major then you have definitely been in Hunt Library before. Group study rooms, silent reading spaces, data space, etc. all make it a great place to do homework and study for tests. During big test weeks or finals, many engineering students pull all-nighters in hunt several times throughout the week, making it another home.

When you are not in Hunt you are in your EB

EB *insert number here* is like your second home. You are loyal to your major's engineering building and like to tell people how your building is best.

You understand the struggle of PCJ and the Oval closing so early in the day

Like why are the hours so strange? Engineers have to eat too. I understand that they don't make as much money during the off hours though, but it's still a slightly strange schedule.

Going to the Engineering Career Fair

NC State has the second largest career fair in the nation and the first largest on the east coast. So many other schools come to get recruited from our career fair. This just goes to show how much companies really want NC State engineers.

The EB2 holiday decorations

Why is EB2 the only EB that gets decorations during the holiday season? They are pretty, but where's the holiday spirit in the other EBs?

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
