Haven't you heard? NBC is releasing a new TV show this fall called "This is Us". The show is centered around eight individuals who share the same birthday, who perhaps may be 34 years-old, considering in the trailer individuals are mentioning their 34th birthday. Why 34, you may ask? In the trailer, the characters are reflecting on what they've accomplished at that milestone. The show also allows the viewer to follow along with the characters in their daily lives. For example, Milo Ventimiglia's character, Jack, and Mandy Moore's character, Rebecca, are expecting triplets. However, they face a tragedy and have to learn how to cope and grieve. The themes present in this show are parenthood, growing up and self accomplishments.
How does this go hand in hand with NBC's other show, Parenthood? Both dramas share similar themes of domestic life and parenthood. Parenthood, however, involves siblings Sarah, Adam, Crosby and Julia who all have to juggle raising their children and balancing their families. "This is Us" only allows us to imagine what kind of journey Jack and Rebecca may face. Viewers are allowed to get a glimpse into the struggles they face, as well as the "headaches and heartaches". NBC's take on This Is Us, resembles Parenthood immensely, and I can see why viewers may like the domestic, family vibes they may give off.
People were given an exclusive-showing to watch the first episode of the drama serious and had positive things to say about the upcoming drama! A young woman mentioned the new series "makes you cry one minute and laugh the next" while another viewer claimed "I'm at a loss, I think it's amazing!" The upcoming series is also very relatable because it portrays what people go through in their life. Whether these may be relationships, adventures or struggles, it balances and goes hand in hand with Parenthood due the similar themes it portrayed.
Overall, this show kinda reminds me of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, and I'm pretty excited to watch it. I've always felt that close-knit shows have begun to die out, and more comic centric, super-hero and technological shows have risen and become more of a trend. There's nothing wrong with them, but I wish those who enjoy more drama, romance-centered and family-knit kind of shows would have more options. For example, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, and Parenthood, with the exception of Gossip Girl (and the drama it had!). I'm looking forward for what it brings to television and I'm enjoying the domestic vibe it gives off. Will NBC's This is Us be the new Parenthood? We will just have to watch and see.
