It's pretty well-known that the NBA season has been called off due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, however, people are already looking into how to safely resume the games in order to provide others with enjoyment during this time.
Unfortunately, prospects aren't good for this 8 billion dollar industry, who says that even in the unlikely incident that the games do resume, they will have to take place much after June. Major league events would most likely be canceled and could result in fewer games being played in order to make sure that 2020-2021 isn't also pushed back farther. This sets up a new host of problems, mainly with the lack of practice times in-between seasons. Multiple ideas are being thrown around by officials, ranging from spectator free arenas to full-on changing the time that the seasons start to Christmas.
Of course, the main risk remains the same regardless. The close proximity of people should the games resume. It's not just the 17 players, it's the coaches, the trainers, the nutritionists, the helpers, and many more people working together to keep the machine running at its best capacity. Then on top of that, there are 30 teams. If a single person in the massive business has the virus, it can spread like wildfire, essentially taking out all the teams.
Hopefully, the season can resume when it is safe to do so, and everyone can resume enjoying one of the most popular sports in the United States, and although an official cancellation hasn't been called by the executives, it wouldn't help to get your hopes up about the return of the season this year.
