As the 2016 NBA All-Star Game makes its way to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Sunday, we realize a bittersweet moment. This is the last All-Star Game for Kobe Bryant. While he has had a bad season on a terrible team, I still have to say he deserves this more than anyone else on the court. He deserves to go out in style. This does not change the fact, however, that we saw some stellar talent left on the outside looking in. Here is my All-Snub starting five for 2016.
DeAndre Jordan, Center, Los Angeles Clippers
Lack of ability to hit anything close to the backboard or rim on a free throw aside, Jordan should at least be a reserve in this game. He is 1st in field goal percentage, 2nd in rebounding and 3rd in blocks.
Kemba Walker, Point Guard, Charlotte Hornets
Widely regarded as the most underrated point guard in the NBA, The UCONN product remains underappreciated in a huge year. He currently averages 21 points per game and has shouldered the load for a Hornets squad decimated with injuries. The guy had a 52 point game this season, which is more than most of the league can say.
Damian Lillard, Point Guard, Portland Trail Blazers
Similar to Walker, Lillard is the workhorse for a team that otherwise would not be making a playoff push. He is averaging 24 points a game and has elevated the play of those around him greatly. Fellow guard CJ McCollum is having a banner year with Lillard leading at point. This is for good reason considered the biggest snub of this all-star class. The worst part is the fans have passed over Lillard in two consecutive productive seasons now.
Kristaps Porzingis, Power Forward, New York Knicks
A 14 point average is not outstanding but for a rookie on a team in flux (The Knicks just fired head coach Derek Fisher) it is not that bad. Not to mention, he boasts an impressive 8 rebounds per game. The Porzingod is one of the most exciting and dynamic rookies we’ve seen in years and he belongs on a stage this back in his rookie year.
Gordon Hayward, Small Forward, Utah Jazz
The Jazz are the most surprising team in the NBA by a large margin. They should be one of the lower seeds available but this team is gritty and holds on to the number eight seed in the tough west at the all-star break. They operate quite fluently as a team but Hayward is their unquestionable preferred ball handler. He sets up tremendous plays and finds a way to the basket with ease. Not to mention he provides great rebounding numbers for a small forward on a team that has a good center.
