Navigating Through Life's Experiences

When things happen to discourage us, it is important to remember where to turn.

Life is full of adventures and change. Every day, it seems like something happens to me that has a tremendous effect on the present. Not something bad necessarily, but something happens that might alter the course of our current goal. Unknown variables that cannot be planned for get in the way of your objective, but do not lose focus. Life is supposed to throw curve balls at us to test us, I believe. Given our free will, we can pick and chose our ambitions and goals. Exercising discipline in our desires will makes us stronger. Stay focused, and no matter what it takes, keep your eyes on the prize. I encourage all of my friends and family to follow their dreams on a regular basis. Everyone is a lot happier pursuing something they love.

We live in times when you can basically reach across the globe for support, and you can learn everything under the sun. I feel like a little encouragement is all anyone would need when considering their goals. A push in the right direction from the right person can positively effect someone's life forever. Be there to offer a friendly, positive hand when someone might need it. Surround yourself with good people, and good things will happen. One of those good people will have what you need to become inspired. To me, helping people is wealth, and to be able to relate my point through an article is wealth. We all have trouble finding the motivation or focus to do what is best, and we need each other for guidance.

There is nothing more rewarding in life than to help someone realize their potential. It will always be something that makes you happier at night when you are an encouragement to people around you. The world needs more of us. We hit bumps in the road along our paths, and sometimes we might lose some focus on our goals, even briefly. Never give up on yourself or anyone around you because at the end of the day, these "bumps in the road" will come and go, but the people you motivate and inspire will stay. No trouble is permanent, and it could even be argued necessary for us to remain focused. Nobody should feel as if they are troubled alone. We are too advanced as humans to be letting things like that happen. Lend support and people will be supportive of you. Keep your eye on the prize, and don't ever be afraid to follow your heart. We live in a ever-changing world where the only thing that should remain the same is our faith in each other. Life would not be so difficult with a little help from our friends. I can only say from experience, it pays to be positive.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
