The Natural Need to Earn It
Cats are like the guy who has never given you
his full attention and to say I'm a cat person after that might sound
a bit strange, but it makes perfect sense.
You see, we as humans seem to love a good chase.
No one wants something that comes easy because our
deepest desires and needs in life are usually the things
that are hard for us to have and achieve.
Take high school me for a second, the girl who
got attention from almost every guy at the school
yet, only was interested in the one boy who
didn't seem to care if I was even in the same room as him.
This reminds me of my cat, Luna, who doesn't even notice
when I walk in the door after being gone for hours,
unlike my dog, Miley, who runs up to me at first sight.
Dogs are like the guy who has always given you
his full attention and because of that,
I'm only interested in seeking acknowledgement from my cat.
When attention is constantly being given to you,
it no longer becomes a feeling of satisfaction
and instead a normal feeling you become accustomed to.
Humans seek satisfaction, which is why, when a cat
finally gives you the attention you have been desiring,
the feeling is one of a reward and you become fulfilled.
Don't get me wrong, a dogs attention is warming and comforting too
but it just doesn't do it quite like a cats.
This logic I have might be the reason I've never had a successful relationship
and why everyone tells me I always go after the wrong guy,
but me being a cat person explains my reasoning all too well.
Cats don't care if you leave them home
all day. They probably didn't even notice
you left. When you're ready to cuddle up in bed with your feline friend
they most likely don't even want to be touched
and will swat at your hand in a desperate attempt
to pet them. But let me tell you, when they are ready to give love and be loved,
their affection feels earned and not just handed to you.
So instead of me focusing on all the guys who noticed me
and payed attention to my presence, I put them on the back burner
because I assume they will always be there. Like Miley
is, at the door, for hours, waiting eagerly for me to return home.
