Why does NASCAR exist? Why does NASCAR exist in small towns right outside of large cities that draw in MUCH more activities? Who knows? Not anyone that lives in Concord, North Carolina.
NASCAR has always been a part of my everyday life that I hate. When I was younger, the noises kept me up at night and I didn't get a healthy amount of sleep at night. As I grew up, the noises got worse, and so did the traffic. When I got to a nice driving age, I was going everywhere. Until racing weekend, when I stayed at home, earplugs in, leaving the house as little as possible. My family always tried to go on vacation when the big races came in, but now, it isn't possible with my job. Working in fast food during race season killed me. We weren't allowed to ask off that weekend, or call out. I tried to call out race weekend and I was told "no." It was terrible on my health and it was one of the worst weekends ever. Now that I work at a hotel, a very popular hotel, we get busy during race season too. I like this job, so it isn't terrible, but believe me its hard.
Living in a NASCAR environment means I have to mark the date in my calendar so I know to DEFINITELY NOT drive past Speedway on my way home from work. The police are too much and the traffic is too much and I end up being late for something, even if I didn't have anything planned. Another bad thing is the license checks. I hate license checks, as do most people, so having to go through a license check after I get off work after midnight. And if I forget my glasses, its even worse. NASCAR brings an unnecessary amount of tourism to the Concord community.
Whats the point of driving a car in a big circle anyways? I guess its kind of cool in Christmastime when they put the lights up and we can drive around and celebrate everything. But that's really it. Please leave us alone, NASCAR, we have HB2, just go away like everything else.
