Without a doubt, "Naruto" is one of the most critically claimed manga/anime series ever devised. Garnering fans all over the world, its cult following has been devout, creative and loving. But with any fandom or franchise, it also has fans who are critical. Not to say Naruto has some weak points as an overwhelming majority, but it does have aspects that will leave you scratching your head.
And for those who are not yet just there yet with the series, there will be a Spoiler Warning, so look away and do not read if you do not want it ruined for you.
In case this is a foreign subject for you, Naruto tells the story of the titular character, Naruto Uzumaki, who is a ninja and is outcast and ostracized by society due to having a demon fox spirit sealed inside of him when he was born. At the cost of the fourth Hokage's life, who was the leader of the village at the time of his birth, Naruto aspires to put his haters to shame and become the Hokage of the Leaf Village. Although not the brightest of ninjas, his courage and his friends are the driving forces of this series.
As the battles continued, meeting dangerous enemies and making amazing friends, battles that eventually escalated into full-scale wars that endangered the entire world, Naruto became a sharp, young man, and acheived his dream of becoming Hokage. His friends and teammates Sakura and Sasuke stood by him at his bleakest, with his sensei Kakashi, Team 7 was a force to be reckoned with as far as ninjas go.
However, a new series has started to make the rounds on the internet, aptly named, Boruto, named after his son, Boruto Uzumaki. In short, the series will focus on his son and his goals to become stronger than his father, as his resentment towards the aspect of the Hokage is one of the themes in this new series.
What has been rubbing Naruto fans the wrong way is that in this series, it has been heavily leaked and assumed that Naruto, the character, and star of the entire franchise, dies. Yes, our favorite yellow-haired, nitwit dies. Again, this is all speculation, but a lot of fans are taking this fangirls death knell of the entire franchise. The creators and writers are annihilating this beloved manga, which is what fans are taking it as.
A few aspects before getting into the heart of this opinion, it is surmised in the first chapter of Boruto, the chapter starts off with a destroyed village, and the Hokage Stone Monument is reduced to only rubble. The only characters that are visible are Boruto, wielding a long, sword and a newly transplanted Byakugan, which for you newbies, is a bloodline trait passed only in the Hyuga clan, which grants users near 360 degrees of vision, long-range x-ray vision, and the ability to see chakra points located on the human body.
But back to the subject, there stands Boruto and a new villain, named Kawaki, a tattooed and almost flamboyant looking character, ready to face off. Then it cuts to how Boruto rejects the idea of Hokage, as his dad is super busy, which keeps him from his family. As a result, he asks to be the student of Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto's greatest rival and friend.
Now, the overall aspect of what fans should be thinking about instead of saying. First off, many "fans" and longtime devotees of this franchise have already written off this new series as garbage and insulting. According to a blog for anime reviews, specifically one for Naruto and a website that I follow, I have to say it is extremely aggravating and shameful when fans have already passed this off as trash.
Clearly, people who have quick judgement about this new series aren't true fans. True fans will be adoring the good parts of it, and critical of its bleak and lackluster parts. A good majority of the reviews sound more like rants and complaints than actual reviews.
Now yes, the assumed death of Naruto and other fan favorite characters is sad and very devastating, but that is not reason enough to write this series off and think it is complete filth.
This is why the new series can be good, but a little different to transition to. Naruto's death will be both bad and good. It will be bad because you are essentially getting rid of a favorite character, not only in the franchise but in manga in general. The death of Naruto will mean that there are stronger ninja than him, almost near Madara and Pain caliber, who are ninja that Naruto clashed with in the past. But, the good aspects of Naruto means that there will be ample room to shed some light on Boruto, and allow massive room for him to improve and train. Naruto's death will also be a massive force to make Boruto stronger, and develop a good sense of justice and commitment as a ninja.
Naruto's death was not taken for granted, there had to be a few good reasons why Naruto died. One that that comes to mind is that his village is under attack, and when your friends, neighbors, and especially your children are under attack, you will do anything as a parent and leader to protect your loved ones.
Personally, Naruto was definitely one of my favorite characters in the franchise, but he wasn't my number one. To me, Naruto is cool and funny, but unfortunately, he never clicked with me on a personal level. I'm not saying by any stretch he was uninteresting or bland, but there were other characters that I liked a little bit more, either due to the coolness factor, or how well-written they were as a character.
For example, and yes, I am among the other fan girls of this character, Itachi Uchiha is my favorite character. His strong sense of justice, and devotion to the village, and how strong he was during his time is what attracted me so much to him. After I knew the truth about Itachi, which made me love him even more, it was kind of interesting to see how the writers for Naruto thought of that, how they could make a kind soul play the villain, all for the sake of the Leaf Village. That's maybe where Naruto fans are coming from with this new idea of Naruto dying. Seeing a favorite character who is powerful and personable just die all of a sudden is a travesty. But, judging something new as bad is not the way to go.
Honestly, his death is interesting, I will say that. As a longtime fan of this franchise, I will say that I am excited to see what the writers can do. But, I will want them to experiment with new ideas and concepts, and will have to make this series great, especially if they want to top something off as tremendous as Naruto's death. It's way too early to say this new series is bad, way too early. The writers have a lot of ideas to mess around with, so there is room for creativity. Plus, only two chapters have been released, so there's that as well.
Just because the water is cold doesn't mean you can't swim in it.
