If you want a full experience of Colombia as you watch Narcos (if you haven't already binged on it this weekend), here as some traditional colombian edibles, accessories, and beverages to check out:
Empanadas con aji (Claro!)
Salchipapas (not a traditional Colombian dish, but still common. In fact, Most Latin American countries have this or their own version of this)
Un Tinto o Un Perico (colombians are obsessed with coffee: "quiubo pues!")
Difference between 'Tinto' and 'Perico':
- Tinto is coffee served black with aguapanela (water with Panela - unrefined whole can sugar)
-Perico is served black with regular, bleached, processed sugar.
-Sidenote: not sure if you noticed but Berna was drinking from the same "cafe de colombia' cup in season 2 when he first spoke to Agent Peña in the cafe (I think every Colombian has a pair of these cups...I use them almost on a daily basis, they're the perfect size!)
Jugo de Guanábana en Leche
-I remember eating this fruit as a kid in Colombia when I'd go with my mom to visit. It's been my favorite fruit since. Do yourself a favor: go to a Colombian restaurant and order this drink as your "sobremesa" (literal translation: "on-table". But think, "refreshment")
Una Cerveza Aguila (like the one Sofia is holding)/Poker/Club Colombia/Costeña
OR
Un Refajo (2 parts beer, one part colombiana soda) - So refreshing!! One of my personal faves.
Colombiana or Manzana Postobon. Bacano ("cool").
Chocolate caliente con queso. Mmmm....que rico
Breads (Colombians are HUGE on bread):
in order, top to bottom: Bunuelos, pandebonos, pandebono, almojabanas, Roscón de Arequipe (Dulce de Leche Stuffed Bread), Roscón de Bocadillo o de Guayaba (Guava Paste Stuffed Bread)
Sombrero volteado (more of a coastal thing than a Paisa thing. By the way, "Paisa" is a noun that refers to someone that's from Medellin. E.g., Pablo Escobar was Paisa.)
And last but most certainly not least…Aguardiente Antioqueno!
Que disfruten! Salud Parceros!!
