I am 19 years old and still feel the need to take a nap each day. The nap can last an hour or more; I. Need. It. It's as if I am in preschool again, and it's "nap time" when the mid-afternoon hours rolls around. I don't like feeling sluggish, because then my motivation goes out the window, and I become crabby. I want to reassure you that everyone feels sleepy from time-to-time, and that's perfectly normal and okay.
1. Naps are an escape from reality.
Even if it is for 30 minutes or 2 hours, once those eyes close, your mind takes you to incredible places. Sleep is the one place where you can run away from your workload, stresses, and that load of dirty clothes that you haven't had a chance to wash yet.
2. Naps are good because science says so.
A research study was conducted by NASA on pilots that showed that a 26 minute nap enhanced performance by 34 percent and alertness by 54 percent. See! Naps are useful for something besides curing your sleepiness!
3. Naps, along with sleep in general, have their health benefits as well.
It can lower blood pressure, the risk for heart disease, can improve memory and one's ability to learn.
4. Naps can save you from an emotional roller coaster.
When you're tired, do you ever notice how your sense of annoyance skyrockets? Whether you aren't a morning person or you hit the wall of sleep during the day, you can't deal with people when you feel tired. Your emotions overall are all over the place. You might even feel so tired that you need to have an emotional outburst. I can guarantee that taking a nap will take that edge off!
5. They boost productivity.
A lot of people make the assumption that people who nap are those who are lazy; yes, this can be true. But when you rise from a nap, it can put the pep in your step that you've been needing, even more than that Starbucks coffee you heavily rely on!
6. If you don't have time for a nap, resting is just as beneficial.
Laying down for a short amount of time can help to put you at ease and boost your mood.
Are you feeling the temptation for a nap now? Go ahead, take that nap!
