The Life Of A Nanny

For those of you lucky enough to land such an easy and enjoyable job.

Nannying is one of the easiest and most enjoyable jobs a college student can land. Although it can be exhausting watching kids all day, but if you find the right family, it's well worth it. Here are 20 things you can relate to if you are/or have ever been a nanny:

1. You get overly excited when the parents tell you to keep the change.

2. You get stared at in public as if you didn't beat teen pregnancy.

3. You start counting down the hours until you get off as soon as you get there.

4. You constantly struggle with wanting to sit and relax and wanting to be the fun nanny.

5. You let them wear and eat what they want because you've learned to pick and choose your battles.

6. You know the theme songs and characters to their favorite shows.

7. You say things like “I have to watch the kids today” as if they’re your own children.

8. You get too competitive in games and don't let the little kids cheat... even if it is just candy land and you're playing with a five-year-old.

9. You just want to go home and sleep after work because kids are exhausting and never seem to run out of energy.

10. You become a health professional if one of them scrapes their knee.

11. You never know what they're going to say next. Kids really do say the darnedest things.

12. You are asked if you'll take them swimming everyday even when it's raining.

13. You realize your job is a constant reminder you aren't ready for kids.

14. You feel like a mom when you pick up your friends and have carseats in the back of your car.

15. You most likely have Disney songs for car rides, and to go along with that you have learned every word to their favorites.

16. You hate giving them timeouts.

17. You always find crumbs and wrappers crammed into random places in your car.

18. You do more activities than you can count in a single day.

19. You can't help but miss them when you're away for too long.

20. You would do anything and everything for the kids you watch because they've become like family to you.

I wouldn't trade my job for anything. I understand that some may disagree with me and think watching kids is awful, and that can be true if you get stuck watching bratty kids. However, I was lucky enough to get a job watching three of the most adorable, hilarious, and loving little girls in the world for two amazing parents. I couldn't have gotten luckier with not only landing an enjoyable and well paying job during the summer time, but I am also beyond lucky to have bonded with the family I work for!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
