It's been up to you as Nancy Drew for 20 years now and I think it's high time we take a look at the top ten games we've shared with this woman.
10. The Creature of Kapu Cave
I bet you expected me to start off small with something like Trail of the Twister or Ransom of the Seven Ships didn't you? Well, this isn't one of those puff pieces. We're going big right off the bat. Creature of Kapu cave was revolutionary when it came to being able to play as the Hardy Boys, and, if you're going to sit there and tell me there's no sexual tension between Nancy and those boys, you can get out of my face. Even if you did get sick of collecting sea shells, it's a wild ride from start to finish.
9. Sea of Darkness
Talk about cold case, am I right?!? (I hate myself for making that pun, too late now though, just going to commit) Welcome to somewhere in Iceland where the locals are just as icy (I have to now) as the weather they live in. Yoo-Hoo big summer blowout as the Heerlijkheid careens and crashes in rough waters quicker than the supposed "love story" between Nancy and Ned Nickerson.
Overall, this game may seem forgettable, but chill out (I'm sorry) the characters are enjoyable and there are plenty of bone-chilling (I have a problem) moments to go around. It takes all of Nancy's sleuthing skills to put this case...on ice (that one was too good not to).
8. The Secret of Shadow Ranch
An absolute caricature of what life on a farm actually is like. I think there is an actual mystery somewhere in this game in between picking ripe vegetables and failing terribly at baking a cake.
7. Danger by Design
OMG FASHION! But seriously, what should have been a filler game in the series came out swinging. Between bartering with mimes about the prices of the trash he was selling and that paint bomb, this game was not messing around.
6. The Captive Curse
What is it about Nancy and old, creepy locations? Couldn't just do this over skype Nance? Had to go to the creepy house in Europe didn't you? To this day, I am still convinced that Lukas, the obnoxious little shit in the lederhosen, was behind it all.
5. Alibi in Ashes
This one takes it close to home for Nancy and puts Ned Nickerson in the limelight for being the most boring, vanilla dude ever. I mean come on, by this point Nancy has been pretty much around the globe twice and has been hit on blatantly by guys that have more character in there little finger than Ned has in his whole body, but I digress. This game sees Nancy take on #FakeNews and juicy high school gossip in an interesting turn of events.
4. Shadow at the Water's Edge
Domo arigato, Nancy roboto. This game starts off as a nice teacher exchange program for Nancy and her posse going to Japan, but of course she has to stay in an absolutely terrifying inn instead of some regular hotel like any of us normal people. This game made the jump from little-spooky to play-with-the-lights-on terrifying. Nancy just has to "poke around" and give us all heart attacks instead of teaching English. How about staying somewhere that doesn't have see-through doors next time and save us all the cardiac arrest Nance.
3. The Silent Spy
I think I can speak on the behalf of all of us when I say WTF HER INTERACTIVE? I wanted a nice escape from reality not to have to listen to blackmail recordings of Nancy's dead mom, my god. Overall, great game though.
2. Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
If I had to go out to that cemetery at night one more time, I think I would've had an aneurysm. I couldn't look my dog in the face for at least a week after this one. On top of that, I immediately developed an irrational fear of forest fires. If it wasn't for Nancy's uncanny ability to make Rube Goldberg machines with her hands tied behind her back, I'd probably be afraid of being tied up in sheds that are on fire too. Overall: s'spooky.
1. Message in a Haunted Mansion
Raise your hand if you lost the game by untying the chandelier when it was uncalled for. I know I am guilty as charged. Whether it's learning the piano or figuring out you need to IRON A ROPE, this game puts you on the edge of your seat and keeps you there.
