This Valentine's Day, Name A Roach After Your Lover

Tired of getting your special someone chocolates and flowers for Valentine’s Day? Can’t afford a fancy dinner? Not into typical, sappy gifts? Well, don’t you worry the Bronx Zoo is here to save the day.

The Bronx Zoo has re-launched its campaign allowing people to name one of their Madagascar hissing cockroaches after a loved one. According to Today.com, the Bronx Zoo originally launched this program in 2011 in order to raise money for the World Conservation Society. The Bronx Zoo claims to have tens of thousands of roaches in need of an identity, so they opened it back up to the public just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Some people are getting even more creative. Many are using this opportunity to name a roach after an ex or even an in-law. That’s definitely a great way to tell someone you don’t like them…or really love them? Either way, this fun idea raises money for a great cause and brings some humor to the holiday.

To purchase this lovely gift all you have to do is head to the Bronx Zoo's website. Unlike 2011, this time they are offering two different packages to choose from.

This first option is only $10 and includes a digital copy of your certificate that you can print out on your own.

This new option is a bit pricier at $25, but it comes with a little more. Here you will get a printed certificate as well as a small box of chocolates for your sweetheart.

John Calvelli came up with the slogan “chocolate melts, flowers wilt, but roaches are forever.” He points out the humor in the project. It promotes a genuine meaning, despite how unappealing roaches are to many. It’s said that roaches never die. The gross little things are a burden and a homeowner’s worst nightmare. So why not name one after someone that means the world to you? Their legacy will live on for a very long time and they will know without doubt that you were thinking of them and how important they are in your life. Just be prepared for some confusion at first. Not everyone finds its sentimental when a bug is named after them. Just make sure they know you mean it in the nicest way possible and do NOT say it reminded you of them… unless it’s an ex, then go right ahead.

If you’re lost on what to buy for Valentine’s Day, just remember this dedication is a great way to donate to a needy cause. The World Conservation Society is an amazing organization that has a goal of saving wildlife all over the world. Their global commitment states, “WCS is committed to protecting the world's wildlife. We have a bold vision for the future and a strategic plan to lead the way.” They only want the best for our

animals and we should, too. If you would like to donate to the WCS you can head to their website for more information.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
