One of the fastest elevators in the world will take you from the ground to the roof (at 1,670ft above the ground) in just 30 seconds. It travels at 37 mph and it is the elevator in the Taipei 101 building in Taipei, Japan1. Imagine you have an entire ride, from the ground to the roof, and back to the ground to pitch anything you want and get the deal of your life. How would you go at it? The term elevator pitch comes exactly from this situation; where you encounter yourself trapped in an elevator with a potential investor, who can do nothing but listen to you.

In a society where millennials are changing jobs in an average of 3 years or less, it is key to have an elevator pitch ready. Whether you are pitching yourself, a new product or service, a company, an idea, or and event, optimizing your speech in those 60 seconds can help you make an impression in a potential investor, business partner, or client.

After watching infinite hours of Shark Tank, competing in a few Elevator Pitch Competitions (and winning), here are my top three recommendations for nailing your Elevator Pitch.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
