Being happy with our appearance is a big part of today’s society. If we look in the mirror and see something we don’t like, then chances are we become unhappy with ourselves. And I know we all have seen the articles online that point to “super pills” that eliminate body fat and you magically end up with a six-pack abs. I am here to bust some of these myths about fitness and show you what NOT to do to live a healthy lifestyle. Just a quick disclaimer I’m not trying to convince people one way or another these are just my opinions. Before severally changing your diet it is best to consult a doctor or a nutritionist.

The first myth is about pills that just eliminate body fat, false. There are pills that will serve as fat burners but in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle one must take a fat burner but continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Just taking fat burning pills isn’t healthy, eating right and exercising regularly will get you the best results.

Not eating will make you lose weight…FALSE. This one kills me to see. Watching people literally fasting themselves just to lose weight. Not eating actually slows down the body and will make you less likely to lose weight. The body will actually hold onto fat and in a way will burn muscle, which is the opposite of what we want. Eating HEALTHY and having regular exercise is the best way to lose weight. But you NEED TO EAT, eat steady portions of fruits and vegetables along with protein. My opinion on the protein is to eat lean protein, ones with less fat. Lowering your fat intake will also aid in weight loss.

You can never break away from a diet in order to lose weight..false. It’s okay to have days where you just are craving chocolate or snacks in the worst way possible. Losing weight and eating super healthy means you are going to have to cut out some things you usually consumer. For me it has been cutting out alcohol and sweets, being in college cutting out both of these can be very hard. At the end of days, it comes down to how bad do you want to see results? To conclude, you can have days where you just abandon your diet but it must be done in moderation.

In conclusion, there are many different ways to lose weight and do so in a healthy way. The best way is to eat healthy and exercise regularly, different supplements may aid weight loss. Before taking any supplements it is important to consult a doctor to ensure your safety. I hope this article busted some myths and also gave everyone a little more knowledge about how to lose weight safely.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
