Am I the only one that has ever wondered how Christmas candy canes are made?
Think about it, people. They are sugar in the shape of a cane and the colored strips never mix!! *Mind blown*
So I took the time to Google exactly how they make those magical candy canes, here is what the Spangler site revealed to me.
The ingredients are simply sugar and corn syrup, how healthy!
First, the sugar and corns syrup are heated to very high temperatures before being mixed together and brought to a boiling point.
Each batch is one hundred pounds of candy, which is equal to a small child.
After the candy is cooked, it is poured on a cooling table. While it begins to cool the chosen flavor, or flavors, are added.
(In case you were wondering, peppermint is my favorite).
The batch is then mixed on a kneader, which combines the flavor and the candy. The kneading process changes the color of the candy to a golden shade of brown.
Next, the candy goes to the puller! The pulling causes the candy to turn a silky, white color that we all love.
After the candy is pulled, it is placed into a batch former, which forms the candy into a log-like shape.
(Only a few steps left before we get the finished product: that perfect Christmas candy cane!)
The candy goes through a twister, which the stripes resemble a pole. The cutter snips the candy into sticks and places the sticks into a wrapper.
The straight candy stick is then wrapped, and sent through a machine called the “Crooker.” This machine is what gives candy canes that “hook” shape, also known as a “shepherd’s crook.” This is the final stage of the candy cane making process.
And that, my friends, is how the delicious Christmas treats are made!
