To The Friends I Didn't Know I Was Missing

In life, there are very few people that you can point out and say, "those were the people who changed my life, they made a difference." When going into college and starting a new chapter in your life, your filled with a bunch of new things. New environment, new home, and most importantly, new roommates. If you're as lucky as I got to be, those random roommates that you get assigned might just end up to be your best friends. Or better yet the ones who changed your life and made a difference.

To my wonderful roommates,

Life has passed us by quicker then we expected. 9 months ago we were placed in a jail cell looking dorm and were complete strangers. Not knowing anything about each other besides our names and which part of the state we lived in. Once it stopped being a little awkward in the beginning and we got to know each other on a more personal/comfortable level, such a good bond was already forming. I like to think I got pretty lucky when it came to the four of you.

Our jail cell looking dorm started to feel somewhat like home, but better yet, the four of you started to feel like home. As the past 9 months flew by, I can’t help but think how appreciative I am for you. Starting with the endless amounts of laughter and happiness you've brought into my life everyday, and being there when I needed a shoulder to cry on during some of my worst days. Having at least one person around to always vent to, hangout with, and always be there for you is one of the best parts about having a close bond.

Ultimately, you showed me what true friendship is and what it looks like. As roommates, we see the good, the bad and the ugly, but no matter what you always supported me in everything (even when it was bad decisions) and continuously had my back. I couldn't have asked for much more.

It's funny to think we've spent our whole lives without each other and never realized something was missing, until we met. I officially can't imagine a life without you guys and being apart is going to be a lot harder than I thought. I will miss the tiny details about all of you and the memories we made as a whole will always stick with me.

My heart will be with the four of you no matter how far apart we may go in life.

With all my love,

Your annoying roomie.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
