First of all, Odyssey is a platform that allows its writers to write their opinions. This article is not a statement of my beliefs nor does it fairly exhibit my political views. It is simply an article from a voting citizen of the United States of America who is not okay with her President being disrespected.

Before I begin, a quote read “No matter your political views, wanting our President to fail is like wanting a captain to sink a ship... that we’re all on.”

With the recent change in the White House, the United States of America has been in a battle. Divided, many have got their unneeded opinion out by using the hashtag #NotMyPresident. While I have sat back and let all of the smack talk take place, I have been mostly bothered by this hashtag that has been used by not only eligible-voting citizens, but even children who know no more about the government than a newborn.

News flash to the United States of America, Donald J. Trump is now the president of the United States and a hashtag will not end that. He is not going to step-down because of the hate tweets and marches. We live in a democracy and this is how it works. America has made this change 45 times, hence Trump being the 45th President.

No matter who you voted for, Donald Trump is your president. If he is not, then maybe you do not live in the United States of America. If you have such an issue with our Commander in Chief, leave. It is that simple.

Why stay on a sports team when you hate the coach? Why go to a church when all you do is bash the pastor? Why support a charity when the mere thought of the leader makes you angry?

It is time to grow up. It is time to accept the fact that it is not a ________ world (fill in the blank with your name).

The beauty of this great country is that it is a democracy. We have a choice. If you voted, you have a right to be upset, but now it is time to accept it and move on. If you did not vote, well--- you should not be upset or happy.

If you are a citizen of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump is your president and using the hashtag #NotMyPresident only makes you look ungrateful for this fine country and makes most people not respect you for you are not respectful.

Lastly, if you call yourself a Christian and a user of this hashtag or partaking in any protesting of our new President, you might want to pray. A translation of Romans 13 says, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” Clear enough, right? The Bible also says in James 4:17, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Therefore, if you did not know that you had to respect your president, you do now. Now that you know, if you continue to disrespect him, you are sinning. We all know where sinners go. If not, find your nearest Sunday School.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
