This is basically just an excuse to be silly and talk about music I like. I'll definitely give some variety, but I can't promise this won't be sort of arbitrary. I'm not going to lie, I'm basically picking 16 unknown-ish songs I want to share and the Myers-Briggs thing is a bit of a forced pretense.
ISTJ. ISFJ. INFJ. INTJ. ISTP. ISFP. INFP. INTP. ESTP. ESFP. ENFP. ENTP. ESTJ. ESFJ. ENFJ. ENTJ. Yeah, there's a lot to get through. So let's begin.
ENFJ - Puzzle Pieces by Saint Motel
ENFJs are the glue that holds people together. They're energetic leaders and always aim to guide the people they lead to cooperate and perform to their best. "Puzzle Pieces" showcases that energy and charisma, and highlights the way ENFJs can make everyone around them fit together like puzzle pieces.
ESTJ - Dope Calypso by Violent Soho
ESTJ: the champions of social stability, community, tradition and order. So this one is almost perfectly ironic, because what says social stability, community, tradition and order LESS than a neo-grunge band of stoner-skaters from Australia? Basically, this is perfect for ESTJs on opposite day, or using an apophatic method of description.
ISTP - Super Lowkey by JGivens
ISTPs are the gentle builders, the engineers of the world. This song is driven and punchy, but advocates a lowkey vibe. ISTPs are generally very lowkey and chill people, yet driven and punchy, working with their hands and doing their thing without fuss.
INTP - Dark Star by POLICA
INTPs are total scientists, experimenters and studiers. POLICAs warbled, echoey electro-pop sound is experimental, roboty, and is exactly what I'd put as the soundtrack to a science-y scene in a movie, with all the lab-coats and glowing vials and stuff. Tell me this song isn't basically an auditory lab-coat. And INTP's are basically personality lab-coats. Also it's called "Dark Star" and that sort of sci-fi astronomy jazz is right up an INTP's alley.
ESFJ - Overexposure by Sick of Sarah
ESFJs are the outgoing, popular kids. They support their friends and direct social engagements, and are unsurprisingly one of the most common personality types. You might even say they're a little over-exposed... ayyyy. But anyway, this song has the confident, in-control, outgoing energy of an ESFJ, so it's what I'm going with.
ENFP - Whoopsie Daisy by Jenny Lane
Speaking as an ENFP, we can be a little bit flippant, but also very passionate and energetically outgoing. On the one hand, "I used to like you, but whoopsie daisy, now I don't." is brutally, painfully ENFP, but on the other hand, with our creative passion and unsurpassed ability to read meaning into everything, this song captures the good and bad of an ENFP pretty perfectly.
INFJ - Stella XVII by Aafke Romeijn
INFJs are known as advocates. They're the epitome of REAL social justice warriors, uncontent to stand by and live a tepid life not making a difference. This song is a condemnation of that exact tepidity, and encourages, through solemn reflection, the sort of purposeful life that INFJs seek.
ISFP - Hollow Mountain by Efterklang
ISFPs are the epitome of artists. They challenge social convention through experimentation and are staunchly individualistic in their aesthetic sense. Efterklang has that same individualistic, yet not trumpeted, sense of artistic defiance. This song is not rambunctious, yet certainly breaks many standard norms of music, while still being catchy and beautiful.
INFP - Emerald Skates by The Duskwhales
INFPs are a very sensitive yet optimistic type, always wanting to listen without interrupting and looking for the best in every situation. Unfortunately they can be trampled and hurt easily, and this song sort of channels the sensitivity of the type.
INTJ - The Man Who Was the Circus by SHEL
INTJs are careful, controlled strategizers who like intellectual pursuit and complex rationality. This luscious song by SHEL manages to mesh many seemingly disparate pieces of classical instrumentation and folk sensibility into something quietly thoughtful and intensely detailed, perfectly befitting this personality type.
ISFJ - Burdens by The Last Bison
ISFJs live to help and comfort other people through listening and serving them in a personal, quiet, intimate way. This emotional song by The Last Bison cries out,
"Oh weary, come lay your burdens down!" with a gentle joy in a way that reflects the caring nature of the ISFJ.
ENTJ - White Light by Geri X
ENTJs are charismatic leaders, triumphant social champions. They are the culture's White Light to lead us on. Geri's sound, building layer on layer and swelling with energy throughout, encapsulates this energizing leadership of ENTJs.
ENTP - Billions of Eyes by Lady Lamb
ENTPs are the social debaters. They love perspectives and thoughts from any and all sources for the sake of the perspectives themselves, and will engage with and challenge these perspectives even as they revel in discovering them. They see through billions of eyes and gorge on ideas, and are always fundamentally aware of the plurality of humanity.
ESFP - Meteor by Bossie
ESFPs are the fun, rambunctious, outgoing, little bit flamboyant type of people, and this bouncy pop gem by Bossie certainly fits the bill. Its lyrics are surreal and creepy, but it makes you want to dance with its hookiness, even to the ominous chorus, "I remember the music; I remember the fear, but nothing else before the meteor." And if any personality type could make that seem fun, it would be ESFPs.
ISTJ - AFC Tower Song by Amps for Christ
ISTJs are practical, logical and dedicated. And I dunno, but this song just kinda fits. I really don't need to give too much justification, it's pop psychology mixed with hipster music. Clearly I'm not an ISTJ. But this song is, 'cause I said so.
ESTP - Sni Bong by Dengue Fever
ESTPs are almost feverously adventurous, center-of-attention, do-or-die types. They prefer action to talk and are the life of the party and risk-takers. I honestly have no idea what the lyrics to this song are because they're not in English, but the frantic sound brings adventure and action to mind immediately, and I suppose an ESTP might not be too concerned with what the words are anyway.
Enjoy the music, enjoy the ride, and I hope you can at least sort of relate to whichever song I associated with your Myers-Briggs type.
