Five Of My Most Important Wishes For The New Year

Every year on New Years Eve, we all like to get together with family and friends. It’s fun and exciting knowing that we’ll all be together to take a step into the New Year with each other. One thing that we always do at least a few hours before the countdown is we all get a cup of twelve grapes. What we do with each grape is we use it to make a wish, and then we eat the grape. Here are five of the twelve wishes I have for the New Year:

1. Eating healthier

This past year, I could have eaten healthier. Not for the purpose of losing weight, but just because of the fact that unhealthy foods aren’t good for you, as well as the fact that I’ve never liked eating junk no matter how good certain foods might taste. One of the reasons I wouldn’t eat as healthy as I used to is because being in college and constantly studying would make it more convenient to go to a vending machine and get a bag of chips for a snack. Now I want to bring more snacks from home like apples, blueberries, granola bars, etc.

2. Having better focus in school

I’ve noticed this past semester that while I would sit in class, my attention and focus in class is not what it used to be. I think it’s due to sleeping late nights. Unfortunately, with the motivation I have for doing well in school, it leads me to staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning, studying for whatever exam I have coming up. For the New Year and the new semester though, I want to make sure that I balance out my time more so that I can get more sleep, therefore, I’ll be able to focus better while I’m in class.

3. Becoming more active

Within the past few months, I have gotten into kickboxing and after the New Year I hope to do more of it. It is fun, helps get out any frustration you may have, and works many parts of your body. But kickboxing isn’t the only kind of fun fun cardio to get involved with to stay active. Sometimes something as simple as going for a walk works too.

4. Landing an internship

Landing an internship this upcoming semester would be amazing. I am currently majoring in psychology. The only thing about finding an internship with a major in psychology is that landing an internship along the line of what I want to do would mean sitting in on a counselor's sessions. The reason this is tough is because there are many clients that might not be comfortable with having someone sit in on one of their sessions, which makes getting an internship limited, but not impossible. So my goal is to hopefully land an internship.

5. Spend more quality time with important people in my life

Family and friends have always been a priority in my life, but this upcoming year, I’d like to spend more time with all of those important people. Yeah, it might be tough seeing that I will be going back to school after winter break, but when the people in your life mean a lot to you, you make time for them.

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and I hope that all your wishes for 2017 come true.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
