My Very First Poem

Through the Shadows

Creating a poem is not easy, especially when you are doing it for the very first time. Poetry can be used to convey various messages such as encouragement, faith, love, even mystery. For me, I guess I was using the form of poetry to convey a message of strength. I was recently looking through my poetry book and came upon the first poem that I wrote. I wrote it two years ago, so it's really bad. I have since grown from then and now have so many amazing poems in my book. Here is the first poem that I ever wrote. I hope you get something out of it.

Through the Shadows

They have always told me

That I have never been good enough.

They have always told me

That I would not be able to do it.

For I have heard these things

And so much more

As I wander through the shadows.

What have you done

To benefit this world?

Have you lived a life worth living?

This present life knows not

Of my past mistakes

All this has been happening in my head

As I wander through the shadows.

Please, my dear friend

Don't think of it that way!

Your life is worth more than you know,

Please believe this as I pray!

The mistakes of your past

Are nothing now

For you are free and new.

Once again, you have found yourself

Wandering through the shadows.

Take a deep breathe, my love,

You are absolutely breathtaking.

Never will you cry alone....

No longer will you suffer

through the many trials of this world.

For God has caught you

To never let you go

Just when you needed Him

As you were falling through the shadows.

As you pick yourself up

From falling on the ground,

Just remember this one thing.

There will always be things

that will drag you down,

But let them have no sting!

You are loved!

You are beautiful!

You are worth way more than you know.

And when you feel

Your head drop low,

Don't forget that He is with you

As you wander through the shadows.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
