My Vacation Home

My Vacation Home
Jifatu

Going home for vacation is one of the best feelings. This weekend starts the beginning of my Fall Break. I haven't even been home for more than 24 hours yet and it's been great. I have been able to see my family, friends, and most importantly: my dog (Abby.) Everyone out there who is a dog lover knows exactly what I'm talking about; it isn't easy leaving your family or friends when you go to college, but leaving your dog is ten times harder.

Anyways, I digress. So what exactly do I love about being home? There are just so many things to list. First of all, it is so incredibly nice to have a break from school work. Every day is there is a new project or exam that is assigned and everything begins to build up; stressful nights of studying and completed projects have happened many times this year.

Next, being able to have real food is the most amazing thing. I almost forgot what real people food tastes like. Having cafeteria food from Brandeis almost every day starts to really hurt not only one's stomach but also one's soul. There is only so many times you can get a "salami sandwich with provolone cheese, onions, spinach, and spicy mustard." I really began to know I was eating in the cafeteria when one of the works began calling me by name and knowing exactly what I get from "grab n go." So having a home cooked meal was just the great.

Then being able to see my family and friends. Wow. It is just incredible how much I have missed them. I have grown so close to people up at school, but leaving my friends and family back home is a completely different. Catching up on stories and comparing my college experiences with my friends is just a great way to rekindle a relationship.

So who really needs to go on a fancy trip on vacation? Going home is perfect for me. I am able to relax, eat well, see my dog, and catch up with family and friends. It's the best of the best. Can't wait until Thanksgiving when I get to do it all over again.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
