My Trip To Virginia Tech

This is what I did on my trip to Virginia Tech.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit my friends at Virginia Tech. I left on Friday afternoon with my friend driving. It was great just to see her, since she goes to a different school. We had a nice conversation before I fell asleep. For about 90 percent of the ride I was asleep. It took about two hours for us to arrive at the Virginia Tech campus. I knew that I was going to have plenty of fun while I was there.

The first thing you’ll notice about Virginia Tech is that it is HUGE. It feels less like a college campus and more like a small city. As soon as we unpacked the car, we called our friend who told us where to find him. Let me add, finding someone on this campus is pretty hard especially when you don’t know the campus. It wasn’t long before our friend found us. He took us back to his dorm where we unpacked and blew up the air mattresses. After that he took us for a small tour of the campus. The campus was very pretty and it was interesting to hear about the different traditions at Virginia Tech. Later that evening, we went to the famous Mellow Mushroom. We ate a ton of pizza and went back to my friend's dorm. At this point it was already midnight, but then another set of our friends called us and wanted to hang out. We went over to their place and hung out for a while. Around 3 a.m. we headed back and fell asleep.

The next morning was ice cold. It felt like winter and it was not enjoyable. We didn’t get up until 1 p.m. We all got dressed and ate at one of the famous Virginia Tech dining halls. The food was just as good as I had expected. After eating we decided to walk around campus some more. The atmosphere at Virginia Tech is a lot different than that of JMU or anywhere else. It was an enjoyable walk and everyone we ran into was very friendly. We got to see the campus during daytime and see some things we missed on the night tour. For the rest of the day, we spent it inside watching football and A Nightmare on Elm Street. It was a very relaxing day and I enjoyed every second of it.

On our last day there we all didn’t get up until mid-afternoon. We ate brunch together, which was probably one of the best brunches I have had in awhile, and then packed our stuff and left. It was sad saying goodbye to my friends. I hadn’t seen them in a while and knew I probably wouldn’t see them again until Thanksgiving. Visiting Virginia Tech was a lot of fun and I enjoyed learning about the campus, but my favorite part was seeing all my friends that I hadn’t seen in forever. I can’t wait to get back together with them and make more memories with them in the future.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
