The worst question to ask a film buff is "What's your favorite movie?" There are so many movies that I love that it's hard to pick just one, so I thought I'd share ten of my favorites. I'm a sucker for Sci/Fi, Fantasy, and franchises, so prepare to see a lot of them.
#10
The Incredibles
The Incredibles was one of the first Pixar movies that I saw and is by far my favorite Disney movie. The film centers on Mr. Incredible, a retired superhero who struggles with civilian life. It's the best Fantastic Four movie ever made. I will be punting children out of my way when the sequel is released in 2019 (erghh!!).
#9
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Another Disney Film, Pirates of the Caribbean can be divisive. The first one is actually good, the second one is boring and forgettable, but the third one is a thrill ride from beginning to end. It's Johnny Depp at his most Captain Jack. Anybody who knows me knows that I love pirates and this is just a thrill ride. To most people, this film was the end of the good Pirates movies and we don't speak about the film that came after... or it's planned sequel. Fun Fact- This film is the second most expensive movie ever made.
#8
Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark
I'll say it. Indiana Jones is the best adventure series of all time. Indiana Jones is such a cool character. He's also kind of a superhero. He's a mild mannered professor, but when trouble comes, whether it be Nazis or Communists, he becomes Indiana Jones. I don't need to say much except that if you haven't seen these movies, you should. Just not Crystal Skull. Avoid Crystal Skull.
#7
The Avengers
Like I wouldn't have a movie from the MCU on this list. I think that everybody has their favorite film from this franchise, but mine is the Avengers. I think that the reason is that we had never seen anything as ambitious as this film. We saw all of our favorite heroes on the screen together. It was mind blowing then and it still is. The MCU doesn't seem to be running out of steam which is good news for comic book fans.
#6
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
High Fantasy Ho! I love Lord of the Rings so much. Gandalf, Gimli, Aragorn, Frodo, and the list goes on for how many great characters this movie has. The march of the Ents is so cool and heartbreaking... just watch Lord of the Rings if you haven't already.
#5
Back to the Future
The bottom of the list is probably going to be the hardest. I could swap the last five movies in any order, but this is how it stands now. Back to the Future is the best time travel movie ever and for good reason. Doc and Marty are two of the best characters ever made and the DeLorean is one of the most iconic Sci-Fi images ever. Also, this show inspired Rick and Morty and anything that inspires that show is worth watching.
#4
Silence of the Lambs
This is probably a pick that not a lot of people saw coming, but this movie is nothing less than spectacular. It's one of the few movies that took all five top Oscars when it was released. The best part of the movie though is Anthony Hopkin's performance as Hannibal Lecter: Hannibal the Cannibal. He may only be in a fraction of the film, but he completely steals every scene he is in. Seriously, if you like horror, and even if you don't, you should see this movie.
#3
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Few film series have made a greater impact on me as a person than Star Wars. It really can't be put into words just how much I love Star Wars. Return of the Jedi may be the weakest of the original Star Wars trilogy, but it's still amazing. It has heartbreaking moments, romance, action, adventure, Ewoks, Hutts, everything you could want in a Star Wars movie.
#2
Independence Day
Independence Day is such a cheeseball, patriotic, feel good movie that it is hard not to like. I could watch this film a thousand times and still get chills at the end. This film also has my favorite Will Smith performance. It's so 90's that it's painful, but I will defend it to my dying day.
I think I should do some honorable mentions now, because picking ten movies was way too hard, so my honorable mentions are as follows: The Dark Knight, The Shining, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
#1
Spider-Man (2002)
No film has made a bigger impact on me as a person than Spider-man. This was the first PG-13 movie I ever saw and one of the first that II watched in theaters. I was completely obsessed with Spider-Man for at least ten years after this film was released. Without Spider-man, we wouldn't have the Dark Knight, or the MCU. That's why this film is my favorite of all time.
