A common ice breaker question: "What movies do you like?" If you know me, I have no patience to sit through some movie. I have other things that need to be done, or something I want to do. For me to sit through a movie, it has to be good. This is my list of the few movies I watch, over.... and over.... and over again.
1. Dances With Wolves
Three hours is a lot of time to dedicate to a movie, but believe me it is totally worth it. A civil war soldier sets up camp on the great plains and interacts with the Lakota tribe of Native Americans. This summary does not fully capture how incredible of a movie it is. The setting is incredible and if it does not make you want to saddle up a horse and ride all over the plains then you are not really watching the movie.
2. Secondhand Lions
"Corn, corn, corn. Nothing but corn!" Robert Duvall does a masterful job in this movie alongside Haley Joel Osment, and Michael Caine. A boy is left with his uncles on their farm, he is told these wild tales of his uncle's adventures and see's their eccentric ways. This is a wonderful feel good movie with a few heart breaking moments. If you love a good adventure, animals and country people, then you should definitely watch this movie sooner rather than later.
3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ferris Bueller really is the best philosopher and life coach. He was the original advocate for the personal day. A hilarious classic about one group of friend's day away from school, just enjoying life. Meanwhile, the principal and sister were trying to bust Ferris. Not only is this movie absolutely full of golden quotes and sayings (Bueller........ Bueller...... Bueller....) but also basically a guide movie about Chicago.
4. Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby
If you ain't first, you're last. Again, classic, golden quotes. I would not recommend watching it with parents, and definitely only when you are over the age of 12. One race car drivers plummet from fame to a little bought of fear of driving to getting back in the saddle and trying again and being successful over his rival. Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it? A hilarious movie that captures a different breed of cat for sure.
5. Oh Brother, Where Art Thou
Man, two words: George Clooney. Set in the thirties, three prisoners escape in search of a missing treasure. Based on Homer's Odyssey, it was the only way I could struggle through that book. It was fun being able to pick out the parts from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and see it in the Odyssey. Again, more classic quotes can be found in this movie.
Okay, I see a trend here. I tend to go to the movies with the classic quotes.
6. The Longest Ride
Don't @ me, but if sometimes you need a cheesy, romantic movie. By George this is it. Scott Eastwood is hot and talented, the scenery is pretty and overall again, it gives you plenty of hope about love.... I think, I could not quite get over the main character.
8. Unbranded
A documentary about a few friends and alumni of Texas A&M, get wild mustangs and ride them from Mexico to Canada. It highlights the current issue plaguing the west of an abundance of wild mustangs, and it also brings light to just how much public land is left to be used. The video work is incredible and the guys are really funny. This is another one of those movies that will make you want to get up and get outdoors.
Here we have it folks, the only movies you need in life. A mix of comedy, learning, and a little bit of love is the best way to summarize this list. I love these movies and will drop anything if they are on.
