Hello, fellow trainers. As you all know, every Pokemon fan has at least one type that they have a lot of love for. There are also many fans that love every type for different reasons. I tend to fall in the latter category, but there are a select few that stand out immediately. Without further adieu, here are my top five Pokemon types.

5. Bug

I have a new-found appreciation for bug-type Pokemon, as much for their design as for their updated move pools included in later games. They have an advantage against grass, psychic and dark-types, and a variety of moves such as Silver Wind, Bug Buzz and Infestation help to make this category a much more solid choice. In terms of design, I found myself really liking Heracross, Ariados and Genesect, while admiring strong fighters like Volcarona and Scizor.

4. Dragon

What can I say? Dragons are epic! And Pokemon is sure to deliver in that category. Although the type is weak to ice, fairies and other dragons, they make up for their weaknesses with more than dependable stats and resistance to grass, fire, water and electric types. The addition of other dual-typing Dragons helps to ease the weaknesses in play. Some of my favorite Dragon-type Pokemon include Salamence, Garchomp, Rayquaza, Giratina, Zekram and Mega Charizard X (yes, it counts here).

3. Poison

Ever since Pokemon came out with the new fairy-type and the move Venoshock, I became a huge fan of this under-appreciated type of Pokemon. It may sound cruel, but one of my favorite strategies is to poison my opponents and watch as their health whittles away to nothing before long. Toxic, Venoshock and Toxic Spikes have earned their place as some of the most effective moves to use. My favorite Poison-types include Seviper, Dragalgae, Gengar, Venusaur and Tentacruel.

2. Ice

For those of you who haven’t read my "Game of Thrones" piece from a few weeks back, allow me to reiterate that I am a fan of all things wintry, wolf-like and honorable -- that includes ice-type Pokemon. Creatures that can withstand the harshest elements in the real world as well as Pokearth have always fascinated me. It also doesn’t hurt that this Pokemon type is super effective against dragon, grass, flying and ground-types. Keep them away from those fire-breathers, rock-throwers and steel-types though. My favorite ice-types are Weavile, Articuno, Lapras, Glaceon and Glalie.

1. Electric

My all-time favorite type is the speedy and hard-hitting electric type. Among my favorite elements of nature, electricity always had that, well, spark. I’m already hearing the booing voices in my head, so I’ll just move on.

Considering that Pokemon’s mascot belongs in this category, it’s no surprise that the games have been consistent with delivering solid electric-types. Their numbers tend to favor my two favorite stats of Speed and Special Attack, though physical powerhouse moves such as Volt Tackle and Thunderpunch can send a few fowls and fish into a quick knockout. My favorites include Manectric, Heliolisk, Zapdos, Emolga, Plusle and Minun -- and of course Pikachu!

Because who can help but root for the little glass cannon, futile as it may be…

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
