Who doesn't love a cup of tea with a good book? Here are just a few of my favorite books to curl up and get lost in.
5. "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher
This is a book about a girl who takes her life and records tapes explaining why she did it. Each tape has two parts, and each part pin points one person. The tapes are sent to each person mentioned within them. I loved this book because of I thought the plot was very creative and captivating. The book was very intriguing and was a tough one to put down. I bought it to read on vacation a few years back, but I wound up finishing it before we even packed the car to leave. It was such a great book, and worth the read if you haven't read it already.
4. "Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac" by Gabrielle Zevin
This book is about a girl who falls and hits her head, and cannot remember anything after the age of 12. She struggles through obstacles, and she goes through many big changes throughout the book. She finds love, goes through family problems, and struggles through the obstacles of school. The book is her journey, and her journey is a great read. It is very deep, and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you unlock the past of the main character, Naomi, and the people around her. I got this book at a library, and I accidentally never got to returning it (oops!), and I don't regret grabbing it!
3. "Abducted" by T.R. Ragan
This mystery thriller is about a girl named Lizzy who was kidnapped by a man whom she refers to as "Spiderman", for his love of using poisonous spiders on his victims. She escapes later on, and teaches young girls how to protect themselves from people like that. She finds out that the man has resurfaced, killing tons of innocent women to try to get to Lizzy again. The book is about her trying to stop him, and all of the terrifying obstacles she's put through. I read this book in 7th grade and enjoyed every thrilling second. It's very intriguing and suspenseful, and it's unpredictable plot leaves the reader wanting so much more. I will never forget how impactful this book was for me, and it's definitely one of my favorites.
2. "Room" by Emma Donoghue
This book is about a mother, who was kidnapped and left in a small shed, and her son. It's written in the point of view of the son, who is only 5 years old. He calls the shed "Room," and it's all he's ever known. Their story is shared, and how the mother is treated is revealed throughout the story. The child describes the things he sees and hears, yet has no idea what they mean. He hasn't been outside for as long as he's been alive, and he doesn't really understand anything that he hasn't seen inside of Room. This book is an amazing read, and one of my favorite books of all time. It's a mixture of touching, suspenseful, and absolutely captivating. I could read this book over and over, and not get tired of it.
1. "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Last but not least, my favorite book of all time. I'm sure that you'll know what this is about, but in the event that you don't, this book is about a man named Nick Carraway and how he just so happens to live next door to a man named Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is known for his huge parties and his overwhelmingly large home. Nick has never met Gatsby, but little does he know, his cousin Daisy knows him all too well. Daisy is married to a man named Tom, who always cheats on her and isn't the best to her. When Daisy sees Gatsby again, problems start to form. We read this in English class, and I fell in love with it. I found myself reading ahead at home. There's just something about the storyline that really pulls me in, and once we finished the book, I knew it was my all time favorite. If you have not read this book, I strongly suggest picking it up!
