From singing songs such as Awesome God or Lord I Lift Your Name On High in elementary and middle school at Mass, to meeting Matt Maher and completely fangirling, I think it's safe to say that I've had my fair share of Catholic songs. Here are my top 10 praise and worship songs I've learned and loved throughout the years!
10. On Eagle's Wings
Okay, so this one may not be the most catchy or have the strongest lyrics, but it was played at my Grandpa's funeral Mass, so it'll always have a place in my top 10.
9. Christ Is Risen
One of my best friends and I love this song, it's pretty much our song. I will never get tired of shouting, "Oh! Death! Where is your sting? Oh! Hell! Where is your victory?"
8. Build My Life
I just recently learned this song and oh my gosh, it has been on repeat all summer long.
7. Land of the Rising Sun
I learned this song when I went to the Life Teen Leadership Conference in 2015, and it has been such. a. jam. This song reminds me of the week when everything changed, and I love the dance moves my parish made to go with the chorus (the choreography has the whip, #tbt).
6. Simplicity
This song is so pure. It's perfect for adoration, or any time you wanna be hit right in the feels.
5. Build Your Kingdom Here
Listen only if you want this to be stuck in your head for the next month. This song is so upbeat, fun, and a great song to close Mass with.
4. Overwhelmed
Honestly all I can say is that this song is so... wait for it... overwhelming.
3. It Is Well
This song is fantastic, but I'll never be able to enjoy it quite as much as I did listening to Emily Wilson sing it with all of her heart and soul as if it was the last song she would ever sing.
2. Lord, I Need You
No matter how old this song may get or however many times I hear it, this song will always be a pillar for me. This is the simplest of prayers, and yet it speaks volumes.
1. Always
Always actually moved mountains. I was in an auditorium filled with 500 people, and all the girls stood up and sang the first half of the chorus over and over again. We sang with each other and in that moment everyone was united. Then the girls sat, guys stood up, and they sang the second half. It was incredibly moving. Always will always be my number 1. I'm also certain that if I ever decide to get a tattoo, I'm getting "Always" on my wrist to remind me of that time and that my God will come through, always.
