My Top 10 Go-To Christmas Songs

Yesterday was the first day of December. And what does December bring? Christmas. Which means Christmas music. (Even though we all know everyone breaks out the Christmas music the day after Halloween.)

In the spirit of it being Christmas-month, I figured I would share with you my top 10 favorite Christmas songs. These are some classic, go-to songs I grew up listening to, and I hope you can agree they will never get old.

1. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! - Dean Martin

This has been one of my favorites since I was little. I'm sure that "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow", are lyrics everyone knows by heart. Plus side - even if you don't live somewhere where it snows, this song will get you in the spirit.

2. Little Saint Nick - The Beach Boys

Being from California, The Beach Boys were always a staple when it came to music. They even make an appearance on a Christmas album once in a while. Their version of "Little Saint Nick" is a great tune that always makes me look forward to going home for Christmas.

3. The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole

I know I speak for everyone when I say that this song tugs at the heart strings. This absolute classic just brings out the warm and fuzzy feeling everyone gets during the holidays. I can honestly say this song makes me tear up and gives me the chills. Couldn't tell you why.

4. Walking In A Winter Wonderland - Dean Martin

Another fabulous hit from Dean Martin. There are many versions of this song, but I have always loved the Dean Martin version. This song reminds me of Frosty the Snowman - a stellar Christmas movie I'd go into detail about, but we're focusing on music right now.

5. Sleigh Ride - Ella Fitzgerald

Sleigh Ride might be my number one favorite on this list, but I won't say that for sure. The Ella Fitzgerald version is amazing, but if you are looking for the most classic rendition of this song, find a good old-fashioned instrumental. (I hate to say I might just prefer the instrumental.)

6. White Christmas - Bing Crosby

Another song that will make you sad if you do not live where it snows. I, for one, have never had a white christmas. But that's okay, because I can listen to this song and pretend I have. Maybe it will snow in California soon.

7. Feliz Navidad - José Feliciano

A super fun song to sing with friends and family, because Feliz Navidad is another classic that I can guarantee we all know the words to. I remember singing this in school at a young age and begging my parents to play it every night at home while we decorated the Christmas tree.

8. Baby, It's Cold Outside - Dean Martin

Another hit from Dean Martin!!! As he appears three times on this list, it's safe to say he is one of my favorite Christmas artists. And how could you not love "Baby, It's Cold Outside?" This duet is such a fun song to sing with friends during the holidays.

9. Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms

Another song with many versions, but the Bobby Helms version will always be my favorite. It might be silly that I love all the old versions of these songs, but the classic ones just make them all the more Christmas-y. As you can see, Bobby Helms has more than just this Christmas song on his album, and they are definitely worth checking out.

10. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

Many of us know this fabulous Christmas hit from the movie Home Alone - but again, I won't get into movies here. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" is such an energetic and high-spirited song to listen to during the holidays, and is great for a good old Christmas party.

Well, there you have it for my top 10 favorite Christmas songs. These are in no particular order, because I find it hard to decide which is really truly my favorite. I hope some of these songs are loved by others as much as they are by me, and hopefully I introduced some new favorites with this list! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
