My Top 10 Breakup Songs
Sally Anscombe

It’s been about a month now since my breakup with my boyfriend of three and a half years. I know that this should be a difficult time, but there are a few things that are making it a much easier experience. These include distractions from school, amazing friends, and music! That being said, I put together a list of what I think some of the best breakup songs are. There are those sad songs that put us in the feels, there are songs about becoming stronger, and there are even those feisty songs we all love so much. Here is a list of my favorites in no particular order.

1. "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson

This one is a classic, and let's be honest, Kelly Clarkson owned the early 2000's. This song talks about the empowerment and happiness she feels after breaking up with her significant other. This has definitely been my #1 jam lately, especially the "Pitch Perfect" version.

2. "Best Thing I Never Had" by Beyoncé

Beyoncé, although happily married, wrote this song about the time before dating someone where everything seems perfect and happy. Then, the girl got screwed over and she realized that he was actually wasn't even a good guy. Another amazing breakup song by Beyoncé is obviously Irreplaceable.

3. Literally, any song Adele has written

It's no secret that Adele was getting over a serious heartbreak when her album 21 came out in 2011. But, thanks to the tool that broke her heart, we now have a full album of breakup songs to choose from. Some of the best ones on this album include: "Someone Like You," "Don't You Remember," "Set Fire to the Rain," "Turning Tables," and "Take It All." This album gave Adele a million awards, though.

4. "Too Good" by Drake feat. Rihanna

One of the songs of the summer was this jam by Drake and Rihanna. This one is about a couple who feel like they invest so much in their relationship but don't think they're not getting anything in return.

5. "I Almost Do" by Taylor Swift

Although this isn't her most popular breakup song, this is the one that always gives me the feels. Taylor wrote about someone who is trying their hardest to cut contact with and get over their ex, but they still wonder if they should call their ex or not.

Taylor also has a million other breakup songs including: "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Teardrops on my Guitar," "Last Kiss," "All Too Well," "The Story of Us," "White Horse," "Back to December," and the list literally goes on and on with songs we can relate to. Love you TSwift!

6. "Different For Girls" by Dierks Bentley feat. Elle King

I first heard this country song about a week before my breakup. It's about the differences between how guys and girls handle their breakups differently. The lyrics go through scenes of what guys typically do after a breakup and make a point to say girls can't just act like they're not hurt and like it didn't happen.

7. "U Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette

This is one of those feisty breakup songs we talked about earlier. Alanis Morissette is undeniably angry in this song and she is not afraid to show it. She is saying how she's happy for her ex and his new belle, but not in your usual way. The only way I can describe this song is through the lyrics. Here's a link for you!

8. "Too Little Too Late" by JoJo

Jojo wrote this song about her ex who is trying to get her back after breaking her heart. Obviously, by the song title, we can guess what she said to him...

9. "Stone Cold" by Demi Lovato

This is probably one of Demi's saddest songs she's written since "Skyscraper." She sings about seeing her ex with his new girlfriend and that she is trying her best to be happy for them. She sings about what his perception of her is, but then corrects what her true emotions are. One of the most relatable lyrics in this song is, "you're dancing with her while I'm staring at my phone," because this is something we all do when we feel awkward. If you haven't heard this song yet, please do yourself a favor and put it on right now!

10."Stronger" by Britney Spears

Let's end this on a positive note with one of the most empowering breakup songs to young girls in the year 2000. This song gave girls and women hope that they can move on from anything a guy has put them through. It's basically saying, "hey guys, you suck and I can do better on my own!"

These are a few of the songs that have made it to my playlist this past month. However, there are so much more empowering and emotional songs out there that can help you get over your breakup. If you are having boy/girl drama and need to unwind with music that will make you feel an assortment of emotions, sit down and take a listen to some of these songs.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
