My Thoughts On The Presidential Election

What it's like to participate in my first election.

My Thoughts On The Presidential Election

As I turned 18 two months ago, I was eligible to vote for the 2016 Presidential Election. Sadly, for my first election it had to have terrible candidates. I'm a Democrat and have been raised like that forever now.

Though Clinton has her flaws -- like everyone in this world -- she would've made a BETTER president simply because Donald Trump can't respect anyone but himself. He doesn't respect women, Mexicans, or any other race. He's against immigrants yet his wife, Melanie Trump, was an immigrant not long ago. A great president should know to respect others. He doesn't even respect Barack Obama. Yes, he isn't perfect, but he's been one hell of a president. People think he hasn't done anything because they don't agree with actions, which doesn't mean he hasn't done anything. So before saying anything, do your research! Not every immigrant is a criminal. Many immigrants come to America to fulfill their American Dream, and Donald Trump can't even support what the country stands for. For Mexico, Mexicans come because many small towns are not safe as there's a lot of narcotic business. There's not a lot of job or education opportunities. I'm not defending the criminals, but there's a story behind the non-criminal immigrants, so he shouldn't automatically assume anything about him.

Just because Hillary Clinton is a woman didn't mean she was incapable of being the first woman president. People need to stop with the sexism. We are in the 21st century, so we're way past that era where women were constantly discriminated. Also, the whole email thing...like seriously know your facts before not voting against her. She had a great chance of winning, but people always believe the media. FYI: the internet is not always telling the truth.

If you didn't vote and you could, how dare you. Others want to be able to vote but can't because of their immigration status.

Donald Trump will be another Hitler.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
