My Thoughts On The Orlando Shootings

We live in a world where one decision can have numerous consequences. We live in a world plagued by war and corruption. We live in a world where kids get killed and everyone posts on social media and for a while it’s in everyone’s thoughts and then it disappears. We forget or we have moved on to the next big news story. We shouldn’t move on, there shouldn’t be another shooting. While studies show crime is down, it doesn’t feel like it. There are people out there that didn’t get to raise their child. There are parents out there that had to bury their own child. People say it all the time and I need to say this to make my point, parents should not have to bury their children. With the Orlando shootings, yes shootings, there were two. There are people burying their children right now and we’re sitting on our butts doing nothing. People are terrified to leave their houses or come out of the closet. I can’t imagine living in a world scared of my own family or my friends. The sad part is people do. People can’t be their true selves. Some people will lie their whole lives just to be accepted.

We need to change. We as the new generation need to do something. People are dying and we can’t just change our banners or profile pics. We need to get out in the world and cause change. If you don’t know how to start change it’s easy, inspire others or influence others. We live in a world where average people can make a big change. This change can start with people. Let’s teach our children to love and not hate. Children come into the world like lumps of clay. The artist inside us all shapes this clay. If you try too hard to make the clay look one way, it will never be perfect. If you don’t care enough the clay will not be shaped right at all. It’s easy to help children. Show them love. Don’t ignore them or teach them to hate certain people. Teach them the world is a big bright rainbow and that they shouldn’t have to be scared of it. We need to change something and it needs to happen now.

At the rate we’re going, there will be no one left on the earth in a few years. We will be our own downfall. The world is coming apart quickly but if we work together we can fix it. The world is scary and every time I hear another story about some mad men with a gun I want to scream. This should, no it has to, be the last time a man with a gun will take someone’s life. I care so deeply about gun control. At this point I don’t care who my next president is as long as that person promises to make guns illegal. I have heard too many stories about mass shootings in my life to accept that guns are important. Guns are not special, they are dangerous weapons and no one can control them. They take more lives then they are worth. Guns are a sign of power in America. But what they really are is a sign of death and carelessness. 1,065 people have died since Sandy Hook, this needs to end now. It should have stopped with the children. Don’t sit around and let other people do the dirty work. We once were a strong nation. We need to stick together and become strong again. Let’s work together for a better safer future.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing either of those things, tell someone you love them. The way this country is going they might not be there tomorrow. Be thankful for what you have and tonight hug your loved ones tighter and tell your friends that you’re there for them and they shouldn’t be scared to tell you anything. Support your friends. If you hear suspicious activity say something, even if you love the person, you could save so many people. For yourself and for them, tell someone you love them today. Life goes by quick, don’t look forward for the future, because the present will pass you by.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
