We all have family traditions for the holidays. Most kids woke up on Thanksgiving day to go hunting with there father, I wasn’t one of those kids.

For as long as I can remember I woke up Thanksgiving day to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade with my grandpa. I also grew up watching Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving with grandpa the night before. Along with both the parade and Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving, I grew up watching football all day every Thanksgiving, and hearing the yelling between my grandpa and my uncles.

I am almost 23 years old and that is still a huge tradition that I have with him. While watching the parade, grandpa is having his coffee and bagels, and I am rambling on about the floats in the parade and how excited I am for the family to get together.

We always went to my aunt's house and had turkey for dinner, then right after dinner I went to my grandma’s for a second dinner with my mom’s side of the family. When my aunt and uncle moved back from Chicago, we always went to the lake near our house and had dinner with them, then of course on the way into town I’d get dropped off at my grandmas.

I will never forget waking up watching the parade with grandpa, or the wonderful smells of the houses I went to. Even though I wasn’t one of those children to wake up early to go hunting, I still had my own tradition with my family. What does Thanksgiving mean to me? Thanksgiving means to me eating wonderful food, praising the Lord, being thankful for all that I have and most importantly being with my family.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
