This week, I want to talk about my Thanksgiving this year and how different and special it was. Every Thanksgiving is of course special, but this one really stood out for me because not only did I get to spend it with my family, I spent it with my boyfriend Trevor’s family too.
This past Thursday, I went over to his house and helped prepare the Thanksgiving meal. Though I felt I hardly did anything at all, I hope it was enough. But what I really want to talk about is how my family and his family combined that day. It was the first time everyone was gathering in one place to meet each other after us almost dating a year so it was very exciting to see how the families interacted. Neither I nor my boyfriend thought it would go bad in the slightest and we were right, it didn’t. It was perfect. As we helped prepare the meal, my family had the chance to get to know his family. There was absolutely no awkwardness at all, everyone talked as if they’ve done this before and that was so beautiful to see. Through the football game and snacks, talking continued effortlessly. As we sat down for supper, it continued still; hearing all the mixed conversation and laughter really gave me such a deep happiness and appreciation. I was thankful for the moment. I was thankful for my family and his family being able to converse and connect so well after only just meeting.
On Saturday, he ended up coming to my uncle’s for another Thanksgiving meal and again, it was a wonderful time. Everybody likes Trevor and that is something I am not surprised about at all but am thankful for anyway. It got me to think: this is how it should always be for everyone. Being able to share this holiday together created an undying joy that I will forever thank God for, and it will stay around until it hopefully happens again. I really pray it does. This was my Thanksgiving and it was beautiful, I only hope everyone else’s Thanksgiving made them feel the way mine did.
