Spare Key

It all started with a spare key.

Spare Key

It all started with a spare key.

For so long I have never felt lonely. For so long, my towel was the only one in the bathroom.

You see, I never had a spare key.

It was Friday night when I realized I didn't want to be alone anymore.

I looked at you and I imagined you sitting on my couch.

You see, it gets lonely sometimes.

I looked at you and for the remaining of the night, my drink didn't have a flavor anymore because I could only think about the taste of your lips on my mouth.

You see, walking through this door is painful when you know no one is on the other side.

I gave you my number not realizing I was giving you so much more.

You see, even I have a heart.

I went home and your brown eyes kept me awake at night.

You see, making this bed is strange when you know no one slept on the other side.

I've been thinking. I've been thinking too much.

I think I saw you in my wedding about a year later. You were wearing green - my favorite color.

I came back from work and you were sitting on my couch. Your towel was in my bathroom. You left your spare key at the table.

You see, that was the most beautiful view I have ever seen.

I made my bed smiling the next day.

About two years later, you met my kids.

You were dancing with your little sister at your best friend's birthday party. You said you were tired. She said she didn't want to stop. So you stayed.

You see, you danced with her the whole night.

You carried her to the car and said you were sorry. When I asked you why, you said you left me alone at the table. "Honey, I don't think you know what being alone actually means."

You see, I never told you this, but I saw you dancing with our daughter that night.

She was smiling, so I was too.

You see, I don't remember how, but I do remember when.

It was at that bar downtown on a Friday night that we met. You didn't know it then, but I already knew it was going to be you.

I went to Walmart and made a spare key the next day. I kept it in my purse until you asked for it three months later.

I bought another pillow and lied to you when you asked me if I already have it.

I made room for your clothes pretending I always had the empty space.

I started buying your favorite snacks like if they were my favorite too.

I got another towel just in case you needed it.

But you see, it all started with a spare key.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
