My Sims Obsession

The Sims will always be there.

Everyone at some point wishes they could escape their own life and become someone new. The Sims lets you do just that. I have been playing The Sims games for as long as I could remember — I remember being slumped over the family computer working endlessly on my families and running their lives just as I wanted my future to be. Being able to perfectly manicure my characters was relaxing and let me back away from my own life for a while.

Creating my own little world was always so exciting, and it never got old. I could create endless people with endless houses, and when I got bored with one story, I could start another. But once you finally created a family and a house you really enjoyed, you got to stick with them and watch their entire life. You could interact as much as you wanted or just sit back and watch.

But that doesn't mean I always played the game fair and square. I still knew all the cheats by heart and made sure I always had over $100,000 in the bank. Let's be real — who actually played the game with no help at all? Motherlode and Rosebud were my best friends.

I remember when the first pets pack was released, and all of a sudden a whole new world was introduced. Then there was the university pack where you could move your young adults into a dorm and experience college life with them. I know it might sound crazy, but The Sims helped prepare me for these kinds of moments in my life.

Now of course The Sims also helped me relieve some anger. Everyone who has ever played The Sims knows how therapeutic it is to create someone you are mad at, and then to go and place them in a pool and remove the ladder. It's not insane, it's part of the healing process.

I'd been holding off on buying The Sims 4 since it came out. I always knew I wanted it, but I could never justify spending the money on it. I downloaded the free demo Create-A-Sim game and tried to crave my appetite with just that. And it worked for a while, but I finally caved. I bought The Sims 4, and I can already see myself falling back down the rabbit hole. As I'm typing up this article, the game is downloading and once it's open, who knows when I will stop?

The Sims has always been my video game, a game that I could just pick up whenever and just instantly remember how to play. Everyone has their game they're good at, and for me, it is The Sims. The Sims has never let me down, and I doubt it ever will. Well, my download is finished. So it's now time for me to spend the next three hours of my life making myself perfectly represented in The Sims world.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
