If you are like me then you love Target. The store that is the mother-ship for all “basic girls.” Target is my go-to happy place. If I’m having a bad day let's mosey on down to Target and see what new dresses they have (that I probably do not need), but are so cute! I’m probably not the only person who has considered working at Target primarily for the discount, and having a full knowledge of pretty much every item in that store. I’m writing this article this week to simply publicly display my affection for this store. Here are three signs you are probably addicted to going to Target. Number 1: you go there for one item and walk out with five other things...that you probably don't need. Number 2: Target is the place you go on a bad day for some retail therapy and number 3: Whenever anybody mentions the word "Target," you instantly get excited! If you do any one of these three things that I stated above then you probably have an obsession with Target.
Since I have been in college, I have had some rough days that needed to be cured by a quick trip down the road to Target. When I pull into the parking lot of the store, I immediately get excited with thoughts of “What is new this week?” or “I wonder if that dress' discount went up?” 90% of the time I am going to Target because I actually need something; the problem I face and probably many other Target shoppers face, is walking into Target spending money on stuff you don’t need, and forgetting the thing you actually came to the store for.
Going to Target begins with a quick stop at the Starbucks inside, so I can either get the seasonal drink offered or just a flavored latte. After I have my cup of happiness I start to browse down the juniors clothing aisle. Each time I go to Target I do not expect to buy a dress, it kind of just happens. In the last month, I have bought six dresses from Target. *inserts monkey emoji who is covering eyes* How could I resist? They were all cute summer dresses, and dresses are a staple in summer wardrobes.
After I have found at least one Merona outfit, I venture into the shoe section which is another weakness in my wardrobe. Everybody needs shoes, right? So of course I pick out the most expensive pair of shoes, which I’ll wear out a couple of times and then forget about them because I have five pairs similar to those ones. Most of the time, I can walk away empty handed from the shoe section and then I see the book aisle.
Any time I go to a bookstore I walk away with at least three books, and now that I have books in my favorite store spells trouble. After looking at the Best Sellers, then reading the backs of seven different books, I generally pick out just one book. So, that section of the store isn’t too bad.
While I am venturing through the rest of the store I generally find little knick-knacks, mainly coffee cups. I have an obsession with coffee cups! Other times, I'll find cute stationary paper that I think I’m going to use to hand-write sentiments to people but in reality, they just sit in my school supplies box.
Finally, my favorite section of the store; the beauty section. Generally on my list there is always one makeup item that I need! I truly mean "need" in the sense of "I am all out, and cannot look like a proper human without it." Along with this one needed item, I always find a new foundation that promises to make me look like Gigi Hadid, along with three nail polishes that I use once in a blue moon.
As I walk out of self-checkout with my half-full Starbucks beverage, and on average a $60 bill, I realize I forgot the one item that I actually needed. By this time my endorphins are fully replenished and I say I'll come back next week.
I would like to thank Target for always having me spend money I necessarily shouldn’t on stuff I really don’t need. Thank you for turning my bad days around with your cute clothes and strategically placed cosmetics section.
So if you are like me and feel like a kid in a candy store at Target, then you most likely have an obsession, but that's okay because there are self-help books in the book section of the store.
