Dear Roomie,
We are almost there. We are almost done with freshman year of college and before we know it, our small, perfectly decorated dorm room will be packaged up into several boxes ready to be shipped back to our once familiar homes. In four weeks, we will no longer be freshmen. We will no longer be forced to live in a 16 by 12 foot box, and we will no longer be roommates. Although the thought of this moment may evoke a few tears and a big sigh of sadness, I am thankful for an extraordinary year full of preposterous laughs and heartwarming memories.
I will never forget the infamous number of times our (four) garbage cans quickly filled up well above the brim because of our absurd eating habits. I have to admit, I will not miss our weekly garbage cleansing as we prayed that the thin lining of the bag would not rip as we held our breath, aimlessly running down the hall to the disposal. I will not miss navigating my way through the ridiculous mountains of clothes scattered on our floor and our broken thermostat which left us sweating every night, even in the cold of winter. I will not miss constantly unlocking our bathroom door several times a day and the awkward encounters with yet another person on our floor that we still don't know. And I will most definitely not miss you frowning upon my routine decision to take the elevator to the second floor rather than taking the stairs.
But enough with the will not’s. I will miss our shared obsession with our adorable, white fluffy dogs and our weekly cleaning sessions. I will miss our random dance breakouts when we are clearly sleep deprived and our consistent visits to Newell’s Deli to get the same exact sandwich for the tenth time that week. I will miss seeing your color coordinated closet and your absurd number of water cases under your bed. I will miss movie nights as we shoved our faces with Gordon’s ice cream and microwaved yet another bag of delicious popcorn. I will always remember the daily look of abhorrence on your face when you respond, “Are you kidding?” when I say something odd.
But most of all, I will miss your presence, your obnoxious obsession with reaching your daily FitBit steps, and your typical nightly face mask. So thank you. Thank you for one of the best years of my life. Thank you for adjusting to the college experience with me. For creating some interesting memories and for being there for me when life got a little too stressful. In 20 years, we will look back and reminisce on all the crazy adventures we had together and all the laughs we shared. Thank you for being my roommate. This one is for you, Megan.
Your roommate (for only four more weeks),
Steph
