I am a movie fanatic and I've watched a few really good and really bad movies this year. There were many popular and exciting movies that people were excited for that lived up to the expectations and some that were very disappointing. Here are a few of the movies and my review of them.
1. "Everybody Wants Some!!"
This movie is my favorite movie of 2016. It's about a college baseball team and how they learn to live on their own in college in the 1980s. The movie seems so realistic that it doesn't even feel like you're watching a movie -- it feels like you are back in the 1980s experiencing what college was really like. It's an entertaining movie with an attractive cast including Blake Jenner (Ryder Lynn from "Glee"), Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale from "Teen Wolf"), and Zoey Deutch. While it's a great movie, it does include drinking, smoking weed, nudity, and cursing.
2. "The Shallows"
I judged this movie by the trailer, thinking it was going to be very boring. All I could think was, "how interesting could a movie about a girl sitting on a rock be?" This movie is much more than that -- it's about strength, survival, and hope. I never expected to like this movie, but Blake Lively was amazing (as usual). It was somewhat scary (things popping out) and very gory (one scene where most people had to look away), but I found it very interesting and at times I was like, "She's so smart. Most people would just sit there and die."
3. "Central Intelligence"
From watching just the trailer, I knew this movie was going to be hilarious. Together, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart are a dream comedy team. While this movie was very confusing and the ending made very little sense, I recommend that, nonetheless, everyone with a sense of humor see it.
4. "Keanu"
I don't think a movie has ever disappointed me so much. My favorite show on Comedy Central is "Key and Peele" and all their sketches make me laugh, but in "Keanu" Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key let me down. While most of the movies I watch are stupid and ridiculous, I think this one is the most outrageous. It's a movie about finding a kitten that Peele's character found about a day before losing him. It was not funny in the slightest and I got so bored that I turned it off half way through. I still love Key and Peele, but they need to step up their game.
5. "Finding Dory"
I saw this movie four times in a matter of about two weeks. While nothing could ever beat "Finding Nemo," "Finding Dory" was a close second. It was funny, sad, happy and nerve wracking, all at the same time. It's about friendship, strength, hope and family. I loved this movie so much and if you do see it, make sure you watch through the credits because some old friends make a surprise visit.
6. "The Secret Life of Pets"
This is probably the cutest movie of 2016. I don't think I have to explain what happens in this movie, as the title explains it all. While it was a great movie, it was a little lengthy. I never got bored, but at some parts I was hoping it was almost over. Nonetheless, it was still an amazing movie and a huge hit with the children.
7. "The Boss"
Melissa McCarthy is at it again. This movie was very entertaining and funny and I don't think I've ever laughed so hard, except for her other movie, "The Heat." I can't do this movie justice with an explanation -- just watch the trailer and get hooked.
8. "How To Be Single"
I was excited for this movie, but was a let down. The first half of the movie was hilarious, but then it got very boring. It's a great cast of hilarious women, including Rebel Wilson, Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie, and Leslie Mann, but this movie didn't really do their acting skills justice. I wouldn't put it on if it was on TV, but if others wanted to watch it, I wouldn't complain.
I hope you enjoyed my reviews!
