"Glenn Beck" TV host Tomi Lahren expressed irritation toward the beautiful and conscious "Grey’s Anatomy" actor Jesse Williams’s speech at the BET Awards. Jesse Williams’s speech was about ending racism and how the Black community needs to come together as one and make a difference. Jesse Williams wanted to the get the community to be aware, or as we call it “Be Woke” about what is happening to us as a Black race. According to Tomi, Jesse Williams and other black celebrities aren’t qualified to express about stopping issues happening in America towards African Americans.
Tomi expressed that Williams’s speech was all about victim-hood and police bashing. Tomi tried to come for BET and saying BET’s definition for Humanitarian Award is about perpetual and warned cops. Tomi thinks the “term unarmed black man may be literally accurate but it doesn’t tell the whole story in most cases.” She brings up cases, but not specific cases, about victims being unarmed but not lack trying to get weapons near them or an officer’s weapon. Also, she asked what rights African Americans doesn’t convey. Lahren questioned “You know how many of our ancestors fought in the Civil War to free your ancestors?” Lahren expressed how the “Bloodiest war in the United States history was over what was right and it was largely white people fighting it.” She believes that white people aren’t working to divide America.
Now it’s time for my rant, Ms. Tomi Lahren. I know Tomi feels like BET Awards is “very black” but I feel like she forgot that BET stands Black Entertainment Television. Honestly, I don’t care if she thinks that BET Awards is “very black” because we think Oscars are “very white”. Tomi is trying to break down the speech without fully listening to the full message of the speech. African Americans do not advocate a war on police but we’re offended because of the way they treat us and incidents in the past and currently. We’re offended because it is a great deal of police officers that abuse their authority. Tomi tries to justify that her ancestors fought for my ancestors in Civil War which implies that we should basically “be grateful” for her ancestors. In my opinion, I believe that if she was going to speak about the Civil War then she needed more details and accurate information because my ancestors couldn’t fight until the last two years of the war. Why? Because of racism! She mention how we have rights in the country but did not mention how the white supremacy group called Ku Klux Klan is currently still active in the country. Yes, we do have rights but sometimes we do not have equality. Tomi, Jesse wasn’t talking about rights, it was more about equality. You had the audacity to ask rhetorical question to Williams saying “Do you see yourself as a victim, if so I feel sorry for you." Tomi, your arguments showed a lack of research and understanding. Tomi, you better get your life and have several seats.
