Being a student here at Endicott College we are required to fulfill three internships throughout the course of our four years. INT100 and INT200 are our freshman and sophomore year internships where we are required to fulfill 104 hours of service. I did my first internship over winter break at a local, but popular event and catering company. Having my focus being in event management I had never really considered working with a company that specializes in catering until I found this place. I thought it was interesting to see many different aspects of the hospitality industry that I had never experienced before. I, fortunately, had the opportunity of seeing the catering aspect of everything, which is something I did not think I was interested in and something I had never been exposed to before. To my surprise, I found these operations very eye-opening and I hope to work with catering more in the future.

At my internship, I shadowed the senior event director and helped her plan events from start to finish, including a 350 person, Great Gatsby themed gala at a hall in Worcester. It was amazing being able to see these events take place and see the final product after we had put so much work into making sure they turn out flawless. It was so rewarding working with the team and seeing the final product of the events. I also worked with the style and design team to choosing and pulling props for specific events and packing them up in preparation.

As a whole, I believe this was an amazing opportunity and I obtained more experience and learned more than I ever thought I would from an internship. Everybody I met at this company was very warm and inviting and it made working here so much more enjoyable. I am now excited to continue to explore different internships within the hospitality business to expand upon my knowledge in the industry.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
